I'm draining/filling and replacing the Transmission Pan and I'm draining/filling the Transfer Case. I'm also going to get motor oil and one of those EA Oil Filters thats rated for 25,000 Miles/1 Year (Can I trust it?). Here is my purposed shopping cart, tell me if I need anything more/less quantity wise:

6 Quarts Synthetic Universal Transmission Fluid (Transmission)
2 Quarts Synthetic Universal Transmission Fluid (Transfer Case)
6 Quarts SAE 5W-30 XL Synthetic Motor Oil (Engine)
1 AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters EAO42
1 WIX Automotive & Light Truck Transmission Filters Product Code: 58843-EA

The total price is $150.70 with the preferred customer membership, do these quantities make sense?

I'd get two more quarts of ATF. People have seen a need for anywhere from 6-8 quarts to refill the 45RFE after a filter change. I think I put a tick over 7 in and I had the valve body down.

I'll add two more quarts of ATF, thanks!

i just love AMSOIL products, but i think you should get the 5w-30 high performance oil instead of the xl 5w-30.at $3 more a quart,it will almost double your drain interval.as far as the Ea filter, wait till you compare the filter you take off (with still some oil in it) to the Ea filter in #lbs, then let us know what you think :mullet:

only way to fully switch the tranny over to full amsoil is to flush it with amsoil, then reflush again then refill with amsoil. all your doing is adding 6 qts of amsoil on top of another 6qts or atf+4...

also, change the cooler filter in the tranny while your there.

I'll do that, but it doesn't say that I should do 7,500 mile oil changes like it does with the XL....

I know I should do a flush, but I only have the means of doing a drain and fill. Something is better than nothing....

Comes in the kit...

Are you guys talking about transmission oil pan filter? Isn't that the WIX filter I'm going to buy?

I wouldn't be so sure, mixing amsoil w/ the atf+4 that's already in there might be a waste of money at best, might destroy your tranny. I'd do some research b4 spending the money to mix amsoil w/ what's in there.

Hmmmm.....There are Synthetic Blends on the market, wouldn't this be like a synthetic blend?

The AMSoil is fine to mix. 45RFE is not problematic anyway. Nothing like the ol' __RE/RH paperweights.

tydog - We're talking about the trans filters. Yes. There are two filters and the WIX kit includes both, as well as a pan gasket (I prefer silicone anyway).

Excellent, I'll be making my order soon. Although my girlfriend made me give up online shopping for lent so does anyone have the number for our sponsor? Loop-holes are amazing! And on the AMSOIL Sponsor Sub-Forum, I see that he used to give the $10 Preferred Membership free, does he still do that?

We'll see how many decades the basic 45RFE architecture stays in place.

So how many quarts should I initially put in when I refill the transmission? What happens if I go over? I don't think it's easy to take out if I do go over.

What's the main advantage of going to Amsoil ATF since ATF+4 is already a synthetic? Just longer drain intervals?
