Where is all of the fluid going? Is one of the lines slightly loose? Is it making a "mess"?

I've never had one of those apart - but I think the seal is provided by an O-ring. I'd bet that's the problem.... and going tighter won't help.

This new pump must need a different fitting or something as compared with the original?

I can't see the fluid being the problem.... other than it keeps getting away!
