Painting the stock wiper cowl?

I was wondering if it wouold be possible to get my stock wiper cowl painted. I saw the Street Scene one for $109. Well, instead of spending the $100 on it, would I be able to just get my stock one painted? I'd think it would just be like the painting the door handles. Would the paint start to peel off from the wind blowing on it? And help would be great! Thanks,

Good time to do this mod

I think it would be OK to paint it just like any other part of your truck. Right now some is selling a stock wiper cowl for like $50 in the for sale forum. I would purchase this one and do some work on it. EX. Sand it smooth and fill in any gaps or holes, for a nice clean look. I plan on painting mine when the time comes for a bad azz paint job. Later.
You can paint the stock one mime has been painted for some time now. If you are worried about the paint chiping off just spray it first with some kind of flex paint.

hey D-Draggin, what would you fill any gaps or holes with on plastic? What would stick?
filling holes

You can go to any autobody store and pick up 3M Plastic Repair (#8231) and a roll of cloth mesh (they should know the actual name for this). You put the mesh behind the hole to be filled, then layer the Plastic repair in it, then sand it and fill it as necessary. I used this same thing to fill a qtr size hole in my urthene bumper. Good Luck.

so then to make it easier, you also just use the plastic repair, to coat the plastic, to make it smooth.
Not recommaned

I would not use the repair kit to smooth it out. Some sanding is all it will take, lots of sanding. If you use a bucket of water (dipping the sand paper in priodical (can't spell)), the sanding will go faster and smoother. If you have some cash laying around, don't we all, you can purchase a smooth wiper cowl (fiberglas) from Street Scene for about $100. And don't them tell you it won't fit your D, they tried that carp with me and I bought it anyway, fits nice, just need to get it painted.

Later,
