does this mean my camshaft position sensor is bad and is causing the p1391?

it has been chugging and shutting off on me lately. Also when in park and the engine off key on, my fuel pump keeps turning on and off and i also here clicking noises coming from the fuses under the hood. I believe the ones clicking are the fuel and auto shut off???

please tell me its as simple are replacing the camshaft po sensor. Isnt that located under the cap/rotor? I need to replace those anyways....

Or could it be a badly spliced wire somewhere? While looking back there i noticed some shady splicing going on from a three wire connector which i believe is the crankshaft po sensor but i could be wrong. It connects into the wireing harness and then loose it when runs down the passenger fire wall?

truck runs fine most of the time recently but this has been popping up more and more.

thanks guys! moparer to ya! :drive: :funny::sorry:

so i found the sensor at a dealership and they want $132 for it!!!!

rock auto has one for the 360 for $35....

the guy at the stealership had to get the last 9 digits of my vin to make sure he got the right one.

anyone ever heard of this? Id think the one for $35 would work but wanted to check here otherwise....

got a head start on replacing that sensor and i found that my rotor was really warped. see attached image.

im hoping that with a new cap/rotor the problem will be resolved. i just don't understand why it would keep coming up with trouble codes for the sensor even when the engine is off key on unless the sensor is itself defective and needs replacement.

ill keep you guys updated....

fingers crossed

well after replacing the cap and rotor the truck fired right up. ran about 3 miles down the road and started to sputter, backfire and cut off. Im lucky i got it home. No 0340 code this time but the 1391 showed its face again.

After further inspecting the wiring job done by the monkeys on my crankshaft po sensor i noticed another wire came loose from their horrible spice/quick connects.

The spliced the wire so close to the plug in the wiring harness i had to clamp a quick connect right at the plug on two of three of them. Now when i start my truck it still sputters real bad and eventually dies.

Must the wires be the same length on all three? I currently have two longer jumper type cable between the splice.

The weird thing is, when i have the key on/engine off a check engine light will appear and then go away. Never there long enough to catch the code with my scanner. It's like a ghost or something, almost like the sensor is loosing the signal for just a second.

My question is, could i hard wire the sensor into the wiring harness without any side effects other then have to re-wire when and if the sensor ever dies?

so i went ahead and hardwired the sensor to the harness to eliminate bad/weak splices at the plug level. The truck is still doing the same thing.

with key on the fuel pump and auto shut off relays are tripping on and off and when this happens the check engine light eluminates for a second and then goes away.

bad sensor? i feeled behind the passengerside head where the crankshaft sensor is located and it seemed to be some coolant/oil goo back there... possible shorted out the sensor?

Did you ever fix this issue I’m having the exact same issue right now with my 99 Dakota 3.9l with 5 speed manual transmission. It’s been happening ever since I had to replace the clutch and is driving me nuts shaking like hell and even started flashing check engine light at me.
