Really it makes no difference, except when you go to get your emissions done, make sure you tell them there is a different engine.

Just dont go boasting to MTO about an engine swap.
The guys at drive clean don't care what you've done to it... they scan the VIN (or manually put it in) and all the info pops up, so if you had a V6 and you swapped in a V8 they will test you as a V6... which means you'll probably fail

You do know that they can enter different specifications for the vehicles right?

Hence the reason you should tell them the motor changed.

You are right as they dont care if you have done anything, but MTO does.

They can change the parameters IF your registered with "hot rod" status, they are not allowed to change it just because they want to.

"Hot Rod: a motor vehicle up to and including model year 1999, in which the original motor has been replaced with a motor (different block) of a type not installed on that model year by the manufacturer."
"Hot Rods and Grey Market Vehicles registered with MTO as model years 2000 and onwards will NOT be tested as speciality vehicles, and will be expected to meet the inspection and emission standards set for the model year as registered."

I believe once you get "hot rod" status you still have to do your test every 2 years but they test you as a 1982 vehicle

OK... I've heard everything you guys have said... Plus heard they test it as normal (stock engine). Now, since I'm looking at a bigger, newer engine, I may or may not pass. Anyone know where to look up specific engine/vehicle emissions standards? I can use my old test results as a baseline and compare them to see if I'm potentially going to run into problems. ie. 2002 4.7 Durango CO, NOX and HC ppm vs. 2007 Hemi Ram 1500 CO, NOX, HC ppm

Took the easy route- Doing the rebuild instead. Anyone have the 4.7 and swap in HO cams and pass?
