That 78 360 will need custom motor mounts; the last year or so 5.9/360 will bolt right in at the motor mounts, having the "Magnum" mounting bosses and taps, but earlier will be "elephant ear" mounts.

Any particular reason why you're not going Magnum 5.9 instead? That has factory mounts so it's easier mechanically.

Sell that motor and transmission; pick up a Magnum 5.9 and a 46RH, so you keep overdrive and lockup while driving it on the street.

The Magnum will bolt right up (you'll need the proper motor mounts, but the frame mount is the same); the 46RH is a 727 with overdrive and lockup basically. So best of both worlds.

Ah. That DOES change the equation somewhat *grins*

Still, you'll need elephant ear adapters.

Why not pick up a 5.9 Magnum block, and move the cam et al over to the Magnum motor? You'll need Magnum heads drilled for an LA intake, but everything else (cam, lifters, crank, rods, and if the bore is compatible, i.e., old motor is say a .030 overboard and the new one can work with a .030 overbore, the pistons and rings) should move right over. Well, you'll need Magnum compatible lifters to pump the oil up the pushrods to use Magnum heads, but I bet you'll find it actually breaths and burns a bit better than most LA heads.
