So I’m looking to do an efan conversion, it’s a 97 so having the pcm control it is out of the picture. What I’m looking for is what size of fan do I need? I don’t drive fast, this truck is mostly for off-roading/camping, and I’m looking to take out the mechanical fan cause it’s so bulky. Eventually a 360 will be dropped in here, so ideally I’d like to keep the same fan working for both. This is one I found, looking on the budget side. Will a single fan work or do I need to do a dual efan setups? Upgr8 Universal High Performance 12V Slim Electric Cooling Radiator Fan with Fan Mounting Kit (14 Inch, Black) https://a.co/d/b5j3QpM

That one you linked to will work. But the reviewers either love it or hate it. If you go with this one, measure and see if 2 will fit on your radiator. From lots of armchair reading, aftermarket efans are not well liked for their longevity. Even expensive ones. The best diy option is to pull an OEM fan off another vehicle. A fan in a shroud cools considerably better than an open fan. Take some measurements and look for a shroud that will cover as much of your radiator as possible. Single or dual fan is up to your preference. I think a proper shroud is more important. Go to a pick-n-pull and check some out. Search the forum, there are a few favorites. A Dodge Caravan unit works well and is low profile. Many love the Grand Cherokee aux efan mounted to it's own shroud for the mechanical fan, but not as low profile, so tighter fit for your 5.9 swap. The Lincoln Mark VIII efan is the unicorn of swaps, but they're getting to be rare. Early 3.8 Ford Taurus fans are popular too. On my 2004 Dakota, I swapped in a Crown Vic efan to cool my 4.7 eng. I trimmed the shroud for a better fit. It sticks out a bit, but the later trucks have the radiator under the crossmember, so I have a couple more inches than you do (yours is behind the crossmember).

Wiring, switches, and thermostatic switches are a whole separate discussion. There are a dozen or more ways you could wire it.

Edit: A couple of spelling corrections. Stupid auto correct...

I’ve got the wiring figured out, thanks! I didn’t really want the hassle of trimming/fitting a shroud on, but more I think about it the better it sounds, even if it’s a little more elbow grease!

The trimming isn't always necessary. I've seen lots of pictures of ones that were set right on the fins without trimming. Some weatherstripping would help protect the fins. I could have set my Crown Vic efan without trimming. The right and left edges sit on the tanks of the radiator. I trimmed it to bring the top and bottom gaps in closer. Fewer gaps = more air pulled through the radiator, instead of through the gaps. If you're up to it this was a whole lot easier with the radiator removed. I went through a lot of trimming and test fitting.

Most efan kits use through-the-fins mounts and they seem to work fine. I mounted mine to the mounting points for the factory aux efan (which I removed). I trimmed off the Ford mounting tabs from the shroud and made my own out of some galvanized metal strip from Home Depot. I riveted the strips to the shroud. Many people have welded or engineered their own brackets, and they look pretty slick. Since the earlier trucks didn't have the aux efan, there's probably no mounting points on your radiator. You might have to brainstorm on that one.

Good luck! I'd like to see what you come up with.

For sure, I will post a picture when I get it done. Taking out the rad might be necessary, or I’ll end up securing it to the subframe, while only covering the radiator. Got a pre runner bumper that covers part of the condenser, might make it tough to get to the bottom of the road. Plus it’s a little tall…
