Finally installed the Lumi Logo lighted hood emblem I've had laying in the shop for almost a year. Wasn't sure I'd like it as it seems a bit ricey, but what the hell. And in the end, I'm happy with the look. Here's the item on fleabay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/TOP-LINE-LUMI-LOGO-DODGE-RAM-CL300-OFFICIAL-PRODUCT-LIGHTED-EMBLEM-DECAL/223468502063
Removed the original with some heat and mechanical advantage. Cleaned the old adhesive off the hood paint with 3M Adhesive Remover. (This may start to sound like a 3M commercial.) The old emblem? The pegs are perfectly spaced to fit in pegboard. So it's on my garage wall.
Drilled out the hole thru the hood substructure to accommodate the connector. You can skip this step if you want to play around extracting and replacing pins in the connector, delicate work, not for the inexperienced. I just wanted to save time, I deal with this sort of wiring all day long at work.
3M Automotive trim tape applied to the back of the new emblem, in several strips. From a couple feet, the new emblem looks just like the old one. Close up, it lacks some of the fine detail, but that is to be expected.
Carefully applied the new emblem, you get one shot at getting it positioned right. Routed the wiring out under the front lip of the hood, down thru the support channels, and to a square hole on the drivers side, a few inches from the hinge. I protected all the wiring in convoluted tubing. Running the wiring was the toughest part.
Used 3M tape again to fasten the small inverter module to the hood substructure at the square hole. From there, more protected wiring fastened to the hinge links and down to the firewall, where I routed it thru to the fuse box. Tapped into the parking light circuit.
It's a very subtle bluish-green glow, like a Timex Indiglo watch face. Can't see it in the day, but it shows up nicely in the dark.
Here's a link to a Flickr album with some pics. Some aren't great because my phone battery was low so the flash wouldn't work.
