Hi,
2006 Dakota SLT 3.7 crew cab.
I've located a factory remote starter kit but it doesn't have an install
or wiring diagram.
I asked our local dealer, no parts support for anything earlier than 2012.
Anyone out there with a way to get this installed ?
Thank you, APC

Might be a long shot, but if you have a part number for kit, somewhere there will be a FSM (factory service manual) or a parts manual for your truck. The parts manuals usually include accessory kits. Then you might be able to find a set of instructions part number in the kit contents. Then you may be able to find a copy..... Like I said, long shot.

Hi RA,
Thank you for the reply. Long shot but great shot. I do have the part number. Gave it to our Dodge dealer, he didn't see a diagram with it. I will ask if I can look through their service manual.. Thank you again...

Hi Dakotaff,
Thank you, this is incredible. The installation instructions make an aftermarket look like Child's play.
The addition of tach monitor, hood tilt, dipole antenna, seem to dd a lot that can go wrong..
If I can pick your brain a bit more. I was told the 06 ignition is unique and aftermarket remote starters won't last.
Viper and Compustart don't recommend use on an 06. Flashlogic does list a compatible plug and play kit. Do you think all the extra work to wire the oem will be worth it ?
Thank you again for a wealth of information.

I don;t know of anything special about the 06 ignition, but I would definitely avoid any aftermarket starter systems on these trucks. My 06 didn't come with a remote starter, and I had no intention of installing one. It just seemed like asking for trouble according to a few of my mechanic friends.

Thank you for the input. We live in Nth. IL.. I have an aftermarket on my Ram and must say it is really nice to press a button and get 15 min. of preheat while we clean stairs etc. With that said I don't want to start a problem that doesn't exist now. Looks like we may stay the course and turn the key. Thank you again for all your help. Greatly appreciated. APC

Do you already own the kit? The installation doesn't seem horrible. Yes a bunch of fiddling around, a couple awkward splices, but it just seems like time and maybe a couple skinned knuckles. Tearing into the steering column might be the worst of it. If I owned the kit, I'd install it.

No, I didn't buy it yet. Wanted to find a wiring diagram and get an idea what was on it. The seller wants 200 for the kit. Enough dollars that I wanted to have a good idea it would work and what the install looked liked. When I saw the under hood angle sensor, tach monitor , etc. I started to think each add on could be a trouble point ? I don't have any idea how reliable the original systems were over time ??

The instructions say nothing about having to flash the unit. There are instructions on how to "program" it but it really just involves tapping the brake pedal and pushing a switch, and methodically following directions.

I can't speak to the reliability..... but typically OEM components/accessories like this are pretty well vetted. This one appears to be the same unit as would be factory or dealer installed. In fact the instructions are aimed at a dealer. I guess reliability would be a lower concern -- for you, it's really matter of how confident you are in doing this kind of work, or finding a buddy who can. I read the instructions and I didn't see any show-stoppers.

I appreciate " install & go, HOPEFULLY ". It requires an antenna wire to be wrapped around and glued to the ignition switch plus a dipole antenna, open hood sensor mounted, tach sensor, brake sensor, etc. etc. All I want it to do is warm the truck up....On a side note the aftermarket crowd promotes the ability to start a vehicle from 1/2 mile distance.. I'm still baffled what would require someone to start a car/truck that is 1/2 mile away.......

If I recall correctly, the aftermarket units don't rely on a tach signal -- instead they monitor battery voltage to tell when the engine starts. This is a less reliable method for various reasons. And yes, the claimed 1/2 mile range isn't all that useful.
