I just talked with a trans shop that does racing transmissions about rebuilding by 44re. I told the owner I wanted a race buildup and a shift kit put in. He asked if I had a lock up converter. I said I assumed so, I thought all dakotas used lock up converters. He said no that the R/Ts did not use lock ups. Well that was news to me. In looking at high stall converters I don't recall any one asking if I needed a lock up or not. He also said he couldn't put a shift kit in it if it had a lockup converter, but said he could swap a different input shaft for the non lockup and then use a non lock up converter. Can any one shed some light on this matter? Thanks
