Sorry bout the wall of text

I just need to ask and vent a little. It doesn't seem what me and my wife do we cant get out of debt now. I am a recent college grad shes still in school. We have a 6 month old that was unexpected but a blessing 2 cars (both paid for) and a home we don't have to pay rent on. I make next to nothing. To some 15.00 an hr is good money i guess but they cut our hours back to 28 per week (was 40) to try to save the company money. I work for the Health Care Department for the State of Louisiana as an Information Officer. I'm not a full time state employee so i don't get ANY benefits. Our health insurance is 480 a month car insurance 400 a month then add in food and other bills we are over what i make every month after taxes. We were barely getting by when i was on 40 hours per week. Because of the cost of daycare here, 120 dollars a week, my wife drives my son to my grandmothers/mothers house (40 miles 1 way) on the days she goes to school. I watch him on my days off. I have put in over 200 applications(in the last 4 months) trying to find something but most places want you to work 40 hrs for 10 dollars an hr which is = to what i make now on 28 hr weeks. My wife attends school 5 days a week from 8 to 4 and has hrs of homework each night so that doesn't allow her to take a job. As for me getting a 2nd job i have stooped as low as applying at burger king/McDonald's (not low for some but im ex Military/ex Police Officer and it feels LOW for me) and have not even received call backs from them. I guess I'm just wanting to rant because our bank account finally hit its max line of credit and our credit cards are maxed. We thought about selling my truck (kbb is like 3k) but that wouldn't even get us out of the debt we are in and would make it extremely hard for us to commute back and forth to school/work since our schedules don't match. We have gone through everything we own to see if we can sell anything and other then the 1 TV we own and the 1 laptop my wife uses for homework we have nothing of value.

I guess i just needed to vent and see if anyone else is being hit with the same hardship that we are. Its just frustrating that we can barely afford to eat. And both me and my wife have medical problems so dropping our insurance isn't even an option. we normally meet our deductible by March. We had been receiving help from my parents but with this economy the business my Dad owns isn't doing well either they are not bad off but they are not where they were this time 2 years ago. (ooh even put up fliers for computer repair at the local shops and 0 calls from that)

For anyone who reads/responds thanks you for any support/advise given.

i`m about to be in these same shoes. my military career is coming to a fast hault with 14 years in. and don`t have a clue what i`m gonna do yet.

If you can stay in until this mess is over. I would have retired 2 years ago and sometimes wish I would have and other times not but with 14 years in the next 6 should be cake.

no military experience here, but i was laid off after 4 yrs with my company, now im drawing unemployment,my wife just found today shes getting laid off from dairy queen, thats a sign of how bad it is,,,dairy queen for gods sake is laying off, this area used to be so lucrative for manufacturing when i was fresh out of hs,now it's all gone cept a cple of plants here and their,i was told bye my esc person to check out greenville sc and asked me if id mind driving an hr to 2 hrs away,,i just looked at him,yeh ok,your lucky you dont have too pay any rent,if you was id say maybe move somewhere work is more prominent, atleast thats what it's looking like for me,either that or filing for disability once my unemployment run's out,as my health isnt the greatest..soo look at your choices completely bud,is moving maybe something too think about?cutting back on any extra bills?it's tough right now,,very, very tough for everybody,,specially just coming from out of the holiday season's,keep your head up brother,as tax time is right here and with one child you shld get some taxes back to atleast help you..

like tech said. WTF would you get outta the military after 14 years???? You would be wayyy ahead to stick it out 5-6 more and get that retirement. Any job your offered now will be better after that time anyway, plus always gives you the option of telling them to take a flying leap if the job sucks :)

Sorry to hear it bro. Who is your insurance with? That seems awfully high for two vehicles that are paid off. Being prior military you should look into USAA, they can beat anyone's rates out there. That will help save you some money.

Have you tried looking out of state for work? I know it's hard to move away from family, but the job market in the south has never been the greatest, and I'm sure it's only gotten worse with this economy. Sometimes ya gotta go where the work is.

Hang in there, hopefully things will turn around for you soon.

Thanks for all the support guys I dont know if its a good thing to know im not the only one who is being hit hard by this

what about going back into the military? have you passed that age cutoff yet?
As for this Val the military option is out. I recieved a Medical Discharge I tore my rotator cuff had 2 surgery's to try to repair it. One ended up going bad and they had to remove 50% of the ligaments/tendons connecting my shoulder to my arm. Long story short I have extremely limited motion in my right arm. Less than 30% I also have Plastic screw's holding whats left together which prevents me from shoulder firing a rifle (dominant right). Even with this injury the VA reduced my disability from 40% to 10% last year. I have seen 3 specialists out of pocket since i got out of the military with no luck. This is why i work in Information Technology

I'm in a very hard spot now also. Not sure if it is all recessions fault, well maybe finding a new job is. I have been looking almost nation wide for a new job since last may with no luck yet, Not even part timers around here even as low as BK McDonalds etc. I make next to nothing also, If I didn't get free rent I would be screwed. I am just barely passing by, I make $8.50, haven't had a raise or nothing since I started last year! This company I work for is the worst I have ever worked for and probably ever will!

Hence is why my truck is being so damn slow to build. I can't even go out on dates cause I don't make enough to go on one, really pisses me off!

years ago the "VA" dropped me from 80% disabled to 0%. LOL... blkjak:rant:
How do they do that? Unless of course they fixed your problem, but I'm gonna guess that they didn't. It's not like your disability just goes away. Jackasses. I probably could have gotten disability for my hearing, but I didn't feel like messing with it, heard too many stories about dealing with the VA. Hell, it took almost a year to get my damn GI Bill benefits.

I was in a USD lvl 2 course. We were reviewing the level 1 course work for the guys who completed it a few year before. I was partnered with a close friend who took an arm bar WAY to far even though i was tapping (my fault more then his. He has nerve damage in his lower leg where i was tapping and he said he didn't feel it.) Needless to say he dislocated my shoulder. I have delt with pain and against Dr's orders after my shoulder was set i went back to the class. Needless to say later that day i dislocated my shoulder a 2nd time, More server then the first I drove to the Hospital on Base with my arm behind my back. The dislocation was server enough they did surgery 2 weeks later to try to repair my own fuck up. I was stupid after the surgery and ended up with a frozen shoulder. The scar tissue was embedded in what tendons/ligaments were still good. They removed the scar tissue in the 2nd surgery and also ended up removing more good then they wanted to. To reconnect the tendons/ligaments and muscles that were left they had to disconnect my bicep to re connect everything. This is actually what causes my limited mobility :S needless to say i cant reach a back pocket with my right arm or move my shoulder more then 30* forward. Va Dr's don't even check when you go see them last 2 appointments were "How you feeling? Answer Bad Response ok were cutting your benefits" no physical no nothing. So now i just deal with it. The 117 dollars they give me every month goes straight to a college account for my Son I know i could raid it but that 700 dollars will be more important to him later then it is to me now. His future will eventually be my future.

Yes, this recession really sucks. Been looking for a decent job for well since August and have been to only 4 interviews so far. I do not know if it is because I am older or if the competion is that good but NOTHING yet.
