Just recently developed a problem with my Dakota and I'm not sure if its related to the cooler temperatures outside. Normally when I start it cold the rpms are high and stay high until it warms. Lately when I start it cold, the rpms go up for a few seconds and then back down to idle. This happens a few times with the rpms going up and down, and then after about a minute it just idles......new to the forum.....any help is greatly appreciated.

The first thing I'd start with is removing and cleaning the TB (throttle body). It's quite easy and self explanitory, though there are many topics on here covering it.

In any case, make sure you clean it well, specifically in the IAC (idle air control) orifices. The IAC is the lower of the two electrical connections on the TB.

I just did mine tonite for the first time. I had the very same idle problem you describe. Just look at some past threads and you'll find all the info you need to do it. Took about a half hour. Good luck!
