I have a rough idle and I want to take the idle air control valve off. I took the 1 torx screw off and I thought it would come off but it didnt. What do I need to take off to get the IAC valve off? This is a 2004 with a V8 4.7. Help please.

There is only one screw on his 04. I would think because of only having one screw it might twist in but I don't really think it does. I don't recall when I took the IAC sensor off an 03 TB that I sold. I think it should just come out, might just be stuck from the o-ring.

will it hurt the IAC valve if I try to tug it off hard? or should I not do that. I cleaned the throttle body and inside and out already. Just need to clean the IAC. but wont come off maybe I need to tug it off.

I wouldn't really "tug" it off because it is a delicate sensor and if you hit or twist the plunger on it it can go bad. You could give it a little moderate force but be very careful not to hit it when you are trying to pull it out.

I'm sure someone with the right year truck will chime in soon. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you though. I definitely do not recall having any difficulties when I was removing the sensor from the 03 TB that I acquired.

I'm sure yours is just gummed up and stuck but I would be the same way if I was in your situation, afraid to break something.

IF you didn't get the IAC valve off than you haven't cleaned the TB "inside and out"... There is a large cavity where the IAC sits that will be VERY dirty.

the IAC on an 03+ TB has a double O ring that is a real tight seal. you can try twisting it back and forth and it should break loose. Just be careful when putting the IAC back in. you can cut the o rign real easy as I have done. if you do cut one. just go to auto zone and they will have an O ring that will fit it. where I got mine as the dodge dealership dont sell the O rings separately. they sell it in a ring pack and cost like 50 bucks or might be more.

but it will come out its just as tight as screwing a virgin :funny:

I've removed mine several times... I just put a flat tip screwdriver between the TB and the IAC valve and gently pry.
