How to reprogram key fob?

9071 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Misfit
i keep trying to reprogram my key fob, but i must not be following the directions well, or misunderstanding it or what...
the part that confuses me is this:..
Press and hold the UNLOCK button on the key fob.

After holding the UNLOCK button for four seconds, also press the PANIC button within 6 seconds.

Release both buttons and a single chim will be heard. The chime is an indication that you have successfully entered program mode. All fobs that are to be programmed must be done so within 30 seconds of when the chime is heard.

...Do i hold the UNLOCK button for 4 seconds, THEN press the PANIC, or do i hold them both down for the 10 seconds or what.?

i really am a blonde...
maybe my fob needs batteries or what i do not know...
but i cant figure it out for the life of me..
or better yet does someone have an instructional video?

you need 2 keys to program another remote. the key you're try to program must be cut to match the other keys. the keys are programmed while in the ignition switch, in the ON position. it's been awhile since i've done it, so google it or check ebay, some sellers list the instructions on their auctions
No she is talking about remotes, not keys. You don't need 2 keys to program a new remote, you need 2 keys to program a new key.

You need one working remote to program a new remote.

To answer your question, you press and hold Unlock for 4 seconds, then while still holding Unlock you press and hold Panic until you hear the chime. Should be another 4-6 seconds.

But if you are trying to do it without having an already working fob, it isn't going to work. The only way to program a new fob without having a working one is to bring it to the dealer. They will charge you an hour's labor (even though it only takes them 2-3 minutes). It's for security reasons.
