OK since I put my cheap ebay grill inserts in, I needed to make a latch extension. Very easy to do, so here goes. You really only need 2 parts from Home Depot or any other hardware store, but I picked up a few items to try it a second way if needed. First pic you will see 2 peices of metal, one is threaded the other is not. The rods are size 1/8" x 36", you dont need it that long but the next shortest peice I found was too short. If you use the non threaded rod, you'll need a push nut closed acorn to kinda self thread itself on. I used size 1/8" 32. If you use the threaded one just find the nut that fits.

Use a 1/8" drill bit and make a hole where I show here

Next bend up one end of the rod so it fits through the hole at a 90 degree angle, then let it hang down along the center vertical part of the inside of the grill, and mark it where it is as low as possible to the bottom of the grill but not too far where it can be seen when the hood is closed. I should have measured it but I am too lazy to go back out there now lol! After you know how long it should be, leave about another inch and a half or so past the point where you marked, and bend it so the rod looks like this.

After that just stick the rod back through the hole you drilled, push on the nut then give it a few turns with a socket, get a zip tie to keep the extension from flopping all over, and you should come out looking like this.

Now when you pop open the hood, just reach a finger under there and push the rod up and you are all set! Just make sure that you bend the bottom of the rod in kinda a U shape or similar, since I am sure you wont want to be pushing up on a pointy end every time you open the hood. Its pretty simple to do, and I am sure most know of this already, but for the noobs I figured I would make a writeup since I do see the question asked now and then. Any questions or suggestions on improving this feel free.

or just carry a small screw driver in your glove box...less work and added security feature...
Also illegal if your inspection station happens to employ pricks. :)

Now that I've finally installed my Street Scene relocator after having used the screw driver for 6 months, I still like how people can't figure it out. "Wait, I gotta pull down on this and pull up on the hood at the same time?" People are stupid...

Good write up though, always helps to have stuff like this around for when the question is asked.

This also costs less than $5 and takes a whole 10 minutes to do, so why wouldnt you do it? Also not sure how the screwdriver is an added security feature? Still need to pop the hood from inside first either way.

Nice write up ... I know that with the sniper grill they give you a peice of metal for it .. but its like you said a pointed end you push on all the time. I eneded up glueing a small plastic tip on mine for the last truck
