How to fix a clicking clutch pedal

I had an issue where, when I would release my clutch in my 2003 dakota 4x4 4.7 5spd, it would click. I found that something was sticking when I pushed it in and when I released it would spring back and make a click noise. I just wanted to have a place because I couldn't find anything about it on these forums, but all I did was I greased the part where the clutch pedal(push rod looking thing)pushes with sli- glide, just a silicone based grease.

the clicking is now gone.

I'll have to try that. I've got a similar issue, but this is a ticking sound that varies with road speed. It sort of sounds like a Peterbilt at idle. The clutch is fairly new, but the tranny is a salvage unit with 100K miles on it. The sound goes away after the clutch is pressed 1/2".
Let me know how it works for Your issue. I lathered it up pretty good so I wouldn't come back anytime soon.

Thanks, Grahams! What you see under the pedal is the start of the slave cylinder, sort-of a power boost for pedal effort. I had put a new OEM sc on with the tranny, since the last one had 200K on it. I first tried Liquid Wrench silicone spray; that only worked for 24 hours. Pyroil silicone did the trick: no more noise. Quite a relief. Rep to ya :D
I found out it's called the position clutch switch. And the spring often goes bad. I plan to replace mine as soon as I find one from a low mileage junk yard car. I also sprayed mine with graphite dry lube because the grease started to disappear. The dry lube worlds better imo.
