If Im not mistaken, the '08 and newer manifold will require an adapter for the '99-'07 TB as the '08 and up TBs are drive by wire and attach differently than the '07 and older TBs. Member "Air Ram" sells the adapters.

The '08+ does require an adapter and some sort of cold air kit, as the stock air box won't fit.

the hose that comes off the back, can you just put a filter on it instead of running it to the intake tube

Yes. I have a little cone on mine. It is under vacuum so it must be filtered though - you can't leave it open.

After I mount my 56 Dodge pickup on my 2001 Dakota chassis I'll replace the tried (203,000 miles right now) 4.7 with a remanufactured 4.7 HO long block, which is rated to 310hp. To that I'll install the 2008 HO intake manifold and TB (with the cable adapter) and the Gibson headers from the old 4.7, with Flowmaster 40 mufflers. Along with a 545RFE six speed tranny and the lower 1st gear. Maybe an underdrive pulley on the power steering pump. Hope to get close to 320hp at the crank, about 270hp at the rear wheels. Should be far better than the maybe 195hp at the rear wheels on my 2001 Dakota right now.
