A while back I bought a Grand Cherokee e-fan to install on my 02 Dak QC w/4.7. It's out of a 1999-2002 Grand Cherokee 4.7. Part number is CBG4F250.

Today I finally got to install it, had to do a water pump so while I was there....

I was already started before I thought about pictures and sharing how I did it but this covers it well enough I think. First off,I set it in place to see where/ it had to locate for the wires to reach. The first mount was simple,3/4" spacer and longer bolt using the original fan mount on the passenger side.

Next was one on top. I made the one pictured and used the top bolts for the radiator support brace. It's hard to tell but the bracket is hockey stick shaped. Looked good at the time but had to mod it later,I'll come back to that.

The last mount was simply straight bar with a couple of holes and using the lower shroud mounting hole on the driver's side.

I was told I would have to leave the lower shroud off,but I decided to mod it and make it fit :mullet: I had to cut out a larger area than I thought I would on the bottom. The notch on the right is so the wire would reach and still clip into the hole on the shroud. Not as neat as I would like but I was working at home instead of my shop. I just roughed it with a hammer and chisel then a bench grinder to clean it up neater.

Next I had to take off about 3/4" on the passenger side top joint area to clear the fan mount. Just some bench grinder work here.

One last mod to the lower shroud, where the mount is on the driver's side there is a ridge. It was cut out flush with the mounting ear to clear the thickness of the lower fan bracket. I forgot to get a pic but it's easy to figure out if you use this setup.

I thought from here it was simply bolt it back together but I was wrong. On the upper shroud there is a corner that was hitting the top fan bracket. The fix ended up being a notch in the bracket and the shroud. I milled the bracket but for the shroud I carefully heated and melted it out of the way, pinching it with pliers to make sure it doesn't leak. The top is blow molded and this area is connected to the radiator reservoir. A leak test confirmed i was good and now it bolted right in place. Again,I forgot the pic,not sure if you can tell what I'm talking about from this one.

The fan sets good and solid, there's about 3/8" between the blade bolt and the radiator, the electrical plug was direct fit and the install is complete! For now I'm going to run as is and see how the temps looks. I'll be running the A/C most of the time so it'll be on anyway. If it seems to run hotter,I'll look into an aftermarket fan controller.

The upper shroud fits no problem
Yes,I used the stock molded coolant shroud. I'm sure there's a way to do the top fan bracket design and not have to mod the shroud, but I already had made the top bracket and didn't want to make another one. As mentioned,I notched the bracket and melted/reformed part of the shroud to facilitate bolting it up exactly as it is from the factory.

That fan looks familiar :) Is your truck a manual? The radiator looks thin...
Don't they all look the same? :nana: J/K thanks again for the deal on it. As for the radiator,my truck is auto so I'm not sure what you're seeing.

I forgot to mention too, there's one thing I think this mod needs to be truly complete. It'll probably take me a couple of weeks to get to it but I'll be sure to post it up when I get it done. :D

Must just be the angle of the picture, but the radiator looks like the thin (I think 1") core version that was usually installed in manual trans trucks. Most, if not all, of the auto's had a thicker (1.5") radiator.

My Durango came with the stupid thinner radiator. I will be upgrading to the thicker one within the next week though.

Nice install on the jeep fan. I am running the same fan, it keeps my truck cooler than my old flex a lite 180 ever did.

The manuals with HD cooling came with a 1" core (not HD enough for my needs). The autos with STD cooling came with a 1" core, while the HD cooling was 1.5".

It should be the same plug.

It's controlled by the PCM. It's just a larger/ higher CFM version of the stock E-fan. If you have a 5.9 you won't have that though. Only the 3.7/4.7/5.7 have an E-fan. If that's the case you'd need an aftermarket fan controller.

I've never heard of a standalone stock fan controller in a Jeep. This fan is controlled by the PCM.

And this fan runs when the AC is on or the temp hits 210. FWIU you can change the setpoint with a tuner like SCT.

Ohh I never knew it turned on other than when the AC was on......

Is there a specific fan or model I need?
The jeep fan i got was from a 99 4.7 jeep, make sure its electric because someone told me there is a hydraulic fan that some jeeps have, not sure if thats true but i've never seen it before so I'll take there word for it

Uhh they were probably referring to the clutch fan.. Otherwise they're an idiot.. No such thing as a 'hydraulic' fan.. :jester:
