Well that's what I do best but... 3.55's can suck my balls for towing.
Little Rock to Oklahoma in 3rd most of the way... I almost doubted the trucks ability to pull it... but anyway... 4.7l 3.55s pulling uhaul Auto transporter loaded with a pontiac Vibe... fun stuff and kinda slow... I need new gears
Those auto transporters are heavy, I'm surprised Uhaul would rent you one, they refused to rent me one.

My brother with the same exact truck as mine rented one of those to move a 95 Z28 Camaro. His also has the 3.55 gears. He said it had to pull with a little bit of effort but other than that it pulled just fine. I think that trailer and the car combined was around 5500lbs.

My truck has the 4.7 4x4 tow package with 3.55's and it's not bad to tow with but not the best. I had to tow my buddies 24' pontoon to the lake last year and it was like a parachute behind me if i tried to do over 70. I didn't need tow mirrors cause I could see under the deck with my rear view mirror...

and now with the 33'' tires 3.55's SUCK BALLS!!!

Yea... so... 4.7, 3.55s, 4x4, Total weight including truck comes in at 10900lbs.
Every incline truck down shifts into 3rd, and I loose speed like mad. Also if the hill is long/big enough truck runs hot. I figure it's cuz I am hauling too much weight. Driving Vegas to Reno on US95 the truck got to the "check Gauges" a few times, Had to roll down the windows and crank the heat full blast to get to cool down without having to stop and let it cool down. I am really dreading the I-80 pass from Reno to Sacramento... oh well... not much I can do.. not much weight I can shed.

Is it the tranny or the motor running hot?

Is it the tranny or the motor running hot?
Not sure how to decipher the difference, but the temp gauge on my cluster goes up when the altitude does.

The tranny cooler runs of the same system as the engine coolant right? It just has a separate radiator or is there something else I should be checking?

part of your problem "overheating" at elevation is probably got more to do with the fact that the air is thinner than your gear ratio.

as the elevation goes up, the ait gets thinner, we all know that.

the thinner air means there's less air moving through the radiator to cool it off.

I saw a full size sedan with 4 adults in it overheat on the road up to Pikes peak at 14,000 feet. the air temps were about 35 at the top, but even with the cold ambient air temps, the engine temp was still climbing up into the hot zone.

anyway...back on topic, my quad cab with the 4.7L automatic, 9.25 axle 04 model, weighed 4500 lbs empty accross the scales

that was with me so the truck alone would be about 4275 or so.
