I bought my 1988 Gen I in the fall of 1999 for $100 dollars. I have since stuck about $25,000 into the whole project and the end result is an 11 second, all motor, pump gas, real world street/strip Gen I. The engine is relatively mild at around 530HP/550ftlbs (est), but is also set up to handle a 250HP hit of N2O... I never got that far because im not sure how I feel about putting a cage in it. I often trailer it to the track with my 2002 because its around 50 miles away...and if it breaks, that would be one hefty tow bill.

451 Stroker Big Block
9.5:1 Compression
ported 906 heads
eddy RPM dual plane
600,750,800 and 950 CFM carbs (Depends on what Im doing on a given day)

727 TorqueFlite
Reverse Manu Cheetah Valve Body
3800 Stall BDR Torque Convertor (soon to be installed)

8.750 A-Body Rear end.
3.55 posi (works out to 3.23s with my 28" tall tires)
Comp Engineering Slide-A-Link traction bars.

Ive gotten as good as 14 MPG (600CFM carb) on the Thru-way\. Durring the summer months, I frequent alot of local "cruise nights" and will typically log on around 3500-4500 miles per summer. It has also run a best of 11.69 @ 116 mph in the quarter mile.

Paid $650 for mine with 315K km 2 years ago. Almost no rust, at 369K km now, has never let me down, has always fired right up like a boss.

Best $650 I ever spent

Between brakes and tie rods and few other misc repairs I maybe have another $500 in it

got mine for free from my grandfather in '05 after it had sat in the barn at our farm for like 5-6 years. I still find dirt in some of the weirdest places...he kept it for me to drive as my first vehicles because i asked him to keep it when he tried to sell it because that is the truck i basically grew up in and have fond memories of sitting in his lap and having my hands on the steering wheel while he helped me learn to drive.

I gave $300 for mine while a buddy of mine was towing it to the crusher. He dropped it at my shop and the back was full of old AC units. It had aluminum wheels and 31" tires. I scrapped the AC units for $150,sold the wheels for $150, cost me $28 to get it running, put on steel rims and $40 worth of junkyard tires and spent $68 at sherwin williams for this fantastical paint job! You do the math but I think I ended up with about $136 in it 5 years ago. 1987 4x4 3.9 5 speed with posi in the rear.It loves to crawl through mud. Thinking about a small block this year.

I paid $1800 for mine in '01 with 96k on it. I got hosed though cause 3 months later the engine blew and I had to put $3500 into it for a new engine and the repair list kept going from there. After I got my 98 I sold my 88 to my cousin after my mom hit a deer with it for $300. He put $200 with into it and drove it for 18 months then sold it for $500 cause the tranny shit the bed.

95 V6 Sport reg cab....cost me my dad's life back in 98 but I had bought a new 92 with 5.2, sport package, SureGrip, ac, tilt, cruise for 12k out the door. Gen 1 is the same imo up through 96. Just because the front end is a bit different, nothing else much was changed. I guess you could call it Gen 1.5? :D Anyway, the 95 is stock except it has a straight pipe right off the motor to the tail....no cat either. It's the nastiest sounding straight setup I've ever had and I've had many lol

I'm pretty sure the cab with original VIN is worth that, you could replace every single other part as long as the original cab is on there you will have a Shelby title. I'm looking for a beat-up Shelby to salvage and restore a cab from, drop it in my body and I got myself a Shelby with a 5.9 lol the fast back light bar is hard to find, I found an original from a member on this site who I'm buying it off of.

I could of bought an 89 Shelby with some surface rust for $500 but it had brake and overheating problems turns out it just needed coolant and brake fluid... Oh well I would of spent too much money to it anyway.

New member here! I just paid $250 for an '88 3.9L RWD Auto with only 139k on it. I plan on doing a boosted Magnum / 727 swap at some point.
Nice! You could sell it to a scrapyard for more then that!

700 bucks for a 90 dakota 3.9. 129k miles with all original parts.

few problems, exhaust leak from driver header, Voltage regulator shot (doing the external tonight), i just replaced the 90 amp to a 120 amp since it has a/c, terminals corroded which i have already replaced and a bad O2 sensor on the manifold which im replacing tomorrow.

Under 1k, good deal to me!
