Well just got done with my conversion. I have to offer thanks to all here who shared their experience. You can't buy that kind of help. I did my conversion with all stock parts and programming with the intent of keeping it smog legal in California. I succeeded! I'll post up pictures and a play by play here over the next few days. Thanks for all your help. But mostly to HemiDak whose thread was the one I found first. You made the difference in deciding to go forward with this project.

I'm finally getting around to reloading the SMALLER pictures. Sorry for my anti-techie-ness. Thanks for viewing!

Sweet lord i cant wait to do this swap. Couple more months and it begins!!
Anybody buy a set of Dontshoot67 Motor mounts and or an oil pan and want to sell it? I need them for my soon to be 04 4x4 Hemi Swapped Dakota if you want to part with them!

Thanks guys!
Yes I cut out both of those connectors. I used the remains of the 2001 harness to tie into those wires. For example: the wire for the 2001 Dak fuel pump relay to the hemi fuel pump relay wire. Most of it is pretty straight forward. I can help you when you get started. Just PM me and I'll let you know when I can chat. I have all the wiring diagrams and service manuals here at work www.azmobileautorepair.com. I'd be happy to spend a little time and walk you through the rough parts over the phone. Also please forgive the brain fart.... I deal with anacronims all day long and PDU has slipped through the cracks today... Translate?
Hi there. AWESOME job on an awesome truck. I just purchased this truck that you did the swap on, and I love it. But my mechanic is comepletely stumped by the wiring, and I am completely dead in the water at the moment. Please help! Do you still have the wiring diagrams?:serious: Pm me please, I would so appreciate it. It could save me thousands. I might be out a truck, and the truck is gorgeous and runs amazing! Help! lol

I don't have any of the wiring diagrams. I had to make a custom, 1 off harness. So use the hemi and dakota diagrams

What kind of problem are you having?

Hi, thanks for responding. Well, the truck was running great. (Biggest compaint my mechanic has is trying to decipher codes clearly. He says the mix does not read out right. I am sure there is a solution.) Then the fuel pump/filter/regulator unit in the tank quit. The mechanic said it was the Dakota pump, "not quite holding up" like the one the '05 hemi called for. He changed it, and truck drove better than it had - it was superb. Then a few days later it got rough running, and within an hour just quit. Mechanic checked it, and the "coil packs" were melted. So they replaced them with scrap ones so they could start the truck and trace where ever the voltage was thrown to cause the meltdown. Truck still would not start. (They are not milking it, they do not charge me unless they resolve the issue. REAL Pro set up, these boys.) So they said the issue is wiring. But when they went to trace out the issues, they said the marriage of the '01 Dakota wiring harness to the '05 Hemi harness is too confusing. They asked me to try to get wiring charts. They also wondered if you might be available to talk to them on the phone, to try to figure out this question. Casey (my mechanic) said he felt tracing it himself without some guidence could take dozens of hours. Any ideas?

How do I marry the two diagrams together, the way you did it? If I could, I would pay YOU to fix it, lol.

Could you talk to my mechanic if he called you business hours?

PM me his name and phone number and I'll call him.
Thanks for the great write up and pictures.
Anyone have a 2000 dakota / 2004 durango wiring schematic they could share?
My 4.7's days are numbered and this thread makes me want to Hemi swap my 03 so freaking bad! Not sure if I quite have the means for the fab work in my limited one car garage home "shop." I have done a direct factory motor swap in my XJ but some of the fab work involved here, I am not sure I would be able to perform quickly or at all to get my work truck back to work quickly. But man I want to do this so freaking bad!
Here is a link to what you need if you are lacking fabrication skills.

It's not as much the skills, its the means of production, i.e. tools and time, to do the work. I looked at those engine brackets, My Quad Cab is 4x4 so those won't work for me. Honestly if someone could send me the engine block plates, I could cut and weld the factory mounts like Dontshoot67 did. The AC lines I am not sure if I could make or not so that would be another thing.

Did you buy your hemi yet.? If you are buying used perhaps, you can get the donor mounts thrown in. Then use the mounting face from them. Or take some cardboard and make pattern from the mounting area on the hemi block. If I remember somewhere in this thread don said he would make the mounts on request. So maybe send him a message through his profile page.
I have owned this truck for a few years now and after a lot of work fixing all the stuff the 4th owner screwed up it's running great.
Using sage advice from HemiDak, I used a truck configuration Hemi. Step one was making motormounts. Since the 5.7 bolted right up to the transmission, I left that in the vehicle. I cut the 4.7l mounts apart and made plates that bolted up to the Hemi.

Are you still looking at this post.if so email me at [email protected]
Ok, I am finely ready to start my hemi project. I have 02 3.9 2wd auto Dakota. Planning to install 05 hemi and 545rfe trans.
I have no issues on the mechanical side at all. BUT the electrical side is not my forte or patience for this job.
I have read most all advice and things to be done for this job. I have a 06 hemi out of a Chrysler 300 11K miles on it.
Yes 11K.... It came out of a car that was driven into low area where during the rain. She did not think the water was high.
Her insurance in bought a used engine for a replacement. I bought the core for $50.00. Tore it down sent block, crankshaft,
heads to the machine shop. One broken rod. Four bent rods. Polished the crank, honed the cylinders, reworked the heads.
Installed all new piston and rod assemblies and assembled the engine. Using a 545rfe transmission 2wd.
I have everything I need to start the job except a wiring harness. I have a new 2006 1500 Ram 2wd hemi harness.
I have remove can bus wiring from this harness and installed PCI bus wires to harness and modified for 2005 PCM.
The orange and black connector to the PCM and the C130 no patience for this. Anybody have any advice.
I know Hotwire has been used by many but they have a 4 month wait after they receive both of the harness's
from the truck. I don't have a problem with a few weeks but not 4 months. Any body else do this type of work.
Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. I have also removed MDS solenoids, wiring, and installed the correct lifters for none MDS.

Thank You Daddyododge1

This is quite a while after your post, but un-MDSing a HEMI also requires a non-MDS cam in addition to what you have already stated. Regular lifters are incompatible with the cam lobes intended for MDS lifters.
