Well just got done with my conversion. I have to offer thanks to all here who shared their experience. You can't buy that kind of help. I did my conversion with all stock parts and programming with the intent of keeping it smog legal in California. I succeeded! I'll post up pictures and a play by play here over the next few days. Thanks for all your help. But mostly to HemiDak whose thread was the one I found first. You made the difference in deciding to go forward with this project.

I'm finally getting around to reloading the SMALLER pictures. Sorry for my anti-techie-ness. Thanks for viewing!

Yes it's ours... No... No Hemi. Not yet anyways!
how many hours do you think you put into this wicked project?
Hey, just read through this entire thread! thank you for making this! I have a 2003 std cab short bed, with a manual trans, do you know if there is any extra or fewer complications with a manual trans? I was also curious if the 4.7L flywheel and clutch can be used or if it has to be changed over to a 5.7 clutch and flywheel? and anyone have wiring diagrams in email form? [email protected]
wow, nice write up.

I read all this, registered, and now am really looking at my 05 Magnum in a different way...
i've got an '01 Durango with the 4.7, how hard would it be to swap to a 5.7? I've done a LOT of research about this, what are the parts I would need and would the wiring be splicing the HEMI harness into the 4.7 or plug-and-play or a mix of both?

From what I've read from this entire thread from the 1st page you'll need motor mounts, modify the cross member under the oil pan, wire harness from your 4.7L and from the 5.7L, wire diagrams for your 01 durango and the year and make truck you got the 5.7L out of, custom exhaust, and lots of patients and knowledge about wiring.

If I had a welder, a few more tools, engine hoist, a garage with electric, a bigger garage in general I could probably get the swap done myself but the wiring would be where I would have the biggest problems with. I have an '03 with a strong 4.7L with only 54k miles on it. It probably wouldn't be all that hard to get everything up an running with an able minded person but dealing with wire harnesses scares me. Sounds like it's taking both harnesses, cut off the plugs from the newer harness, figure out what each wire color goes to what on the old harness then repeat using a mix of old and new plugs.

That's my understanding of this whole HEMI swap, sounds simple but could be very complicated once the wiring work begins.

from what I read on your 03 it would be almost plug and play since your truck is NGC, lots of guys running hemi with 4.7 pcm and a cable t.b. from mopar performance but still alot of fabrication
THANKS! I did mine last year over Christmas. Acually bought my engine Christmas day! It was a great time.

Motor mounts are DONE!:bump: $150 a pair. I have 10 pair made. I'll post up pics in a few days. They will fit a 2001 Dakota 4x4 to Hemi for sure. I don't know what else they will fit, but I'm sure many on here do. So post up!

Oil pan: If you ship me those 2 pans, I will modify them for 200$ plus shipping. One time deal.
Hey it's been a long time I know, but I have an 01 4x4 4.7 Dak...in my future plans I think a hemi is in order when this engine dies. Any chance you still have mounts available? Or would be willing to fab an oil pan at some unspecified date in the future?

Thanks!

Sam
i'm flirtng with this idea, Isnt the 2004 Dakota 4.7L more of a plug and play swap? I have no doubt I could do the swap if the wireing was as easy as just unplugging mine and plugging in a 2004 ram Hemi

Great writeup! I saved all ur pics :mullet:

Jeeze dont say that. If the 04 was plug and play... its time to hit CL for a hemi motor and pay DontShoot for an old pan and some mounts.

EDIT:

Apparently you can avoid *most* of the hard wiring in a swap like this in an 04 Dak. You can keep the 4.7l Dak PCM, and use an SCT tuner to upload the 5.7l Hemi tune. allows you to keep the cruise control too. Also, I think you have to buy a mopar perf. 5.7L TB and attach the 4.7l throttle cable. Extend a few sensor wires, swap a few pins. The rest is fab and labor.

hi guys, my 99 dakota is working with the Hemi. I am not able to make the speedometer, tachometer, fuel level work properly. What should I do?
See my hemi working.

Did you change out your guage cluster for a 2002+ cluster?
No, I did not. I just have to do it?
This is my solution?

Yes......if i remember correctly you might have to re-pin some of the wires as well. Check out the differences btwn pin-outs 99 /2002 gauges.
Rockauto lists them as the same. Make sure its for the same transmission as you have.
So the cluster needs to be for an automatic trans.

Yes I know.
Thanks 69rrbruce.
This project in Brazil is very hard to be done.
5.7 Hemi does not exist here.
Dakota was made here between 98-2001.
