My 94 never had one from the facrory, probably because it was a 2wd Sport....I know the 4wd trucks had them on the passenger side...my question is this:

Were the "Oh Shit" grab handles ever put on the driver side?

(I put one on the passenger side a while back, so I have one there)

I just installed a new headliner in my 95 Sport - it did not come from the factory with grab handles but had the holes already drilled for one on the passenger side, so I added one. I found several at the local Pick N Pull - they all had passenger side handles only. I suppose one could be added to the drivers side.

If you get one, be sure to use the screws from the donor - they are very short. Anything longer will bottom out on the roof sheetmetal.

Every vehicle I ever owned had an Oh Shit handle on the Drivers side.

But I always called it a "steering wheel"
:jester: yuk yuk.

I don't have a headliner in my truck, interior is stripped out. The pass side prominently has mounting locations for a handle plus recessed location for your hand, the drivers side does NOT have any provisions for mounting a handle there. Not to say you cant do it but there isnt really a proper way to mount it, the bracing for the pillar has large holes in it for weight savings so it doesn't entirely leave alot of meat left to mount a handle.

Why would you need one on the drivers side though? You do have the steering wheel where the passenger has nothing... Personally if your in a situation where you might need a handle like that you probably should have both hands on your steering wheel, but you generally should at all times anyways.

Hey Bryan

I pulled my headliner out to redo it and started thinking about this thread. So I decided I wanted a handle on the drivers side too. So i just need to go pick some up from the junk yard. I grabbed a couple pictures of each side.

Passenger side (With handle taken down) Has some extra bracing and pre-drilled holes.

Driver side no extra bracing but enough metal that I could pre-drill some holes and screw up this handle to it and it is still very sturdy.

This got me thinking. I have an extended cab so why not throw some back there as well. So i pre-drilled and put put them up centered over the coat hooks.

Now I also noticed in the back two pre-drilled slots above my rear window. In the regular cabs is this where they had the coat hooks? either way I will be putting a couple hooks there as soon as i finish the headliner.

Hope this helps someone some :D
