I plan to use my 2001 Dakota SLT as the chassis donor for my 56 Dodge C3 Pickup. My goal is to use everything possible from the 01 Dak, including the gauge set. But the 01 Dak just shows "normal" reference for volts, temp, oil pressure, etc. The 1999/2000 Dakota gauge set is the same layout but it shows actual numbers for all the gauges. I like to see trends relative to actual numbers. So can the 99/00 gauge set plug into the 2001 cab wiring harness?

When I compare images of the back of a 99 gauge panel with the 01 gauge panel, each has the same two 8-pin connector sockets. So visually it appears the 99 gauge panel will connect to the 01 cab wiring harness.

Thanks, but damn. But thanks for making it a clear decision to not waste money on the old gauge set.

However, does the gauge set from a same year Durango work in a Dakota? I have found many 2001 Durango gauge sets that show the same layout, but shows numbers on the voltmeter, termperature, oil pressure, instead of reference marks.
