Well I know a lot of people wont like the look but I took the fender flares off the dakota today. I started because the front drivers side was broken, but when it came off I made up my mind to take the rest off. I like the look, gonna look a lot better after i trim up the front bumper for my new 285/75/16 SST's. plus think of doing some wheel spacers.

I think your truck looked a bit better with them. There is just something about them that really compliments the Dakota lines. But it looks pretty good without them too, its got a nice wheel and tire combo. I think if it weren't two toned it would be less obvious.

Thanks for the comments! I thought it would be a dislike from everyone..lol, I was thinking of painting the silver black before i took them off but seeing it now I like it this way much better. I'm thinking of getting a roll pan since my bumper is jacked up on one side. And i gotta figure out how to get the line off the body from where the flares rubbed all these years, might try to wet sand and buff when the weather warms up.

A MBRP roll pan with the Cuda style exhaust tips would look great assuming you can find one, I don't think they're still made. I'm curious what wheels you're running, they're pretty sharp

I like it... When I took mine off, half the rear wheel arches fell to the ground in form of rust lol.

Looks 100X better. Honestly! I don't know why the flares are so loved by Dakota Owners.

I think it looks better w/o them on two tone painted trucks, but with them on mono painted trucks.

I just took mine off of my single tone dakota, I was going to bed liner them like my front bumper but decided to leave them off. I need something to get the masking tape residue off where i marked the locations of the flares lol. Otherwise i would post a picture

The flares have more than just a cosmetic function. I dont know if you wheel with you Dakota but the flares do protect against rocks and sand flying up at your fenders. They can take more of an impact than the bare metal and stick out about an inch over your fender. This is especially common when you have wider wheels. I painted mine black and they get grazed and dinged all the time on the trial. But its easier repainting a plastic flare than fixing a bent fender. Just a thought.

I am thinking about taking mine off because i want my wheels to sit flush with the side of the truck and how it is now the flares are wider. If i take them off am i going to have to trim the front bumper? Also how hard is it to put them back on if i decide that i like them on?
