I did the TPS Mod

I completed the TPS mod a few weeks back and honestly I did not notice a difference. My stock setting was .725 and my after mod setting was .758. I really didnt notice a big difference. I have a complete write up with pics at my website.

dakota.thefertigs.com/tpstune.html this will take you to the page but if you want to see more mods go to dakota.thefertigs.com and click on write-ups.

The TPS mod was a waste of my time in my opinion but it may just be specific to my 2004 4.7 V8.
Your factory settingwas okay to begin with. Sometimes people find a factory setting several volts off, that's when it makes a difference.

I figured. I would love to see what it does to someones truck that has a much lower starting resistance. Come to think of it my wifes Dakota is a 98 I may try it on her truck. Still, it was a fun mod to do.
replace stock air filter and cut out all four sides of the stock air box i noticed a consideral difference nothing huge but still a big difference hers a pic of what im talking about u kinda have to look close at the box to see it in this pic.

its the one of the engine if u couldn't tell :joke:
I did that with my Ranger back when I had it. Adds a deeper note in the exhaust. I mentioned it when I first got here, but I was shot down. Glad you like it

WOT isn't a thing, it's a reference to the position of the gas pedal

Wide
Open
Throttle

Sometimes people use it as Waste Of Time...

Going back to the first post, what is the rubber flap from front of grille? Does it serve a purpose?

I dont think so....Maybe put there to keep the truck warmer in sub zero climates or something.....the flap on my durango was dry rotting off anyways so i just pulled it clean off and boofka - a nice large area where fresh cool air can rish into the engine compartment
on pushrod motors: Dissassemble throttle body, port, reassemble. just dont get too greedy.

make sure you have a fresh tune up.

switch to synthetics on the next oil change.

port and polish heads: Mopar sells the templates. about 80 bucks for the gaskets, 21 for the carbide cutters from summit.

yes, drill/cut the stock airbox.

and wal-mart sony speakers are much better than the stock factory stuff. ~40.

umm....

My guess is its there to keep water comin in the grill off the two AC lined that run to the AC cooler through there. I guess if they get too hot it could make steam. Not sure and am prolly just making assumptions but its 4am and I cant sleep  so I thought about it for a bit and thats all I could come up with. Sorry to ramble.

only switch to synthetic if you've got a newer'ish engine prolly ~25-30k. changing from crude to synthetic on a higher mileage engine kills the gaskets for some reason.
Doesn't kill the gasket, it makes a bad gasket make itself known. A good synthetic will remove the crud and deposits on the seals and those deposits may have been helping seal it.
Cut an inch off your exhaust pipe after the cat before the muffler. This will soudn a lot better, and free up the exhaust some. Sounds great too! I used a saw zaw :biggthump
Didnt see it posted but here some shit i did:

1. Shed the spare tire
2. Im into speed, not towing...shed the tow hitch
3. Buy fiberglass or polyurthane bumper..lighter
4. Tear away black shit surrounding raditor on passenger sidefor Ram air effect on K and N's and replace overflow tank with billet one to open other side up too, will keep headers cooler and temp down
5. Be a cheap ass and dont spring for chrome wheels, weight 3x as much, spring for chrome hub caps like i did...alloy weight...chrome look
6. Viper fan or electric frees up more power than using a clucth fan..get rid of it
7. Unplug ac when not using it in winter...wont pull power as much
8. Racing? Lose the tailgate and pasenger seat....

Thats my 5.9 cents on this... :biggthump

actually myth busters proved it true that having the windows down is better than a/c as far as gas mileage. this test was done with the cruise set to 50 mph and both vehicles had 5 gallons of gas. the one with the a/c ran out of gas first.
You actually have that backwards. The one with the a/c actually lasted longer.
I have a hard time believing some of these performance mods do something. I think it's all in your heads.

Put it on a dyno and then come back and tell us it's a proven mod.
Which mods don't you believe Marty? Most of the mods are common sense mods... increase the air flow or increase the fuel flow. Others wont effect the dyno, such as moving the IAT sensor or removing the torque management of the 45rfe.
about switching to synthetics. my engine is at about 60000. should i go ahead and try switching?

Yes, Youll be fine by switching.....The Synthetic oil dosent make anything leak, just uncovers porblems that are already there.....But with 60,000 miles if ouv taken care of it so far youll be fine :biggthump

I dont think its a free mod, especially if the oil cost 8 bucks a quart. The only thing you really get from synthetic oil is longer oil change intervals. Say 6000 miles instead of 3000. Dino oil has been around forever and has been used in cars and trucks for decades. I personally like to just change my oil and filter every 3000 miles. Just my.02 I had a car that had 200000 miles on the engine and nothing was ever wrong with it. It had the oil changed regularly.
