What all did you change? carb, transmission?
The truck originally had a 4 cyl. 5 speed so that all came out. My dad and I built a 340 he had stored away for 20 years, built a 727 automatic, fabbed up some motor mounts, had a driveshaft made, got an 8 3/4 rear end and did all the rest, radiator, e fan, tranny cooler etc. Headers and edelbrock airgap to be installed in anout two weeks.

Excuse me for whoring, this thread is a bit dead in contrast.

Look what I found today! I must have drove by it 5 times before I finally gave in and had to take a picture, same generation, same color blue (without the two-tone) same mirrors mine had and chrome wheel well trim only he has larger wheels. If he will sell it I will buy it for a summer truck build, it's super clean...even cleaner than mine :(

LOL, I guess your right. I never understood why people think the early years is a different generation when it is only a different grill same body/frame/suspension.

I spotted this stepside on my way back from the Manchester Airport in NH! Very rare and there were several other vehicles on the property for sale I really wanted to ask if I could buy the Dakota but it was about 5am so I did not go knocking...however since this is the ONLY stepside Dakota I have ever seen in person I had to trespass and go knocking on the truck itself haha I can confirm almost 100% that the bed on these trucks are completely made out of fiberglass and not steel. I want to lift one for a winter truck that would be great for New England.

The bed is all fiberglass. I had one like that . Its a 88 isn't it. Mine had a real nice front seat made by flexsteel. It also had a sunvisor. They make some and put a couple chrome pipes on them and called them little red express. There is a guy around here that has a 1979 LRE and one of these 88 LRE.

We're here, 89 Shelby also!! I drove a 2002 yesterday that we traded in (I have to fix the bedside, was hunting a bedside for it) and I didn't like that truck at all, great power, 4.7 5 speed but no room inside it...NONE!, I'm a 1st and 2nd Gen fan, like the flat sides and the interior room, I've got 2 of my wheels done and mounted on the Shelby, I'll post some pics in a day or so, they look killer!
I know this an old post, but a gen1 guy saying a gen3 had no room? :rotflmao:
