Tomorrow (Monday, as long as it isn't raining...) I am going to try my hand at fiberglassing. I am building an enclosure to mount under the seats of my QC. If all goes as planned, I should have the bottom done tomorrow.

I have NEVER done this before, all I have is online tutorials to go by, but they seem complete enough. I have the materials, but I need to pick up some disposable paintbrushes in the morning.

Any last minute tips?

be in a cool area and not in the sun, watch for the amount of hardner you put in, its quick, slower it dries the more level and smooth itll come out from what im thinkin.

No last minute tips, I haven't tried this either. I did want to see some progress pics if you get a chance. Also what type of enclosure are you building? I have been trying to come with a speaker option in my Quad and have had very little luck. Good luck on the project though sounds like fun!

Eh. Make sure you DO put enough tho, it should set up SOLID in 20minutes TOPS! ( I usually get on extra bottle of hardener). I recommend using a smaller rectangular gladware container for the resin. When it sets, it pops right out of the container and you can re-use over and over. Be very liberal with the resin...I usually dip mine in...and lay it down. Get any air bubbles out.

Also, use WIDE masking tape...and I recommend vasaline...so the mold comes off the tape. Make sure you have PLENTY of gloves as well.

good luck getting subs to fit underneath the seats, theres no room there, can barely fit an amp.

I am considering cutting out the carpet under the seats, as well as under the bottom of the seats, but can't bring myself to do it yet!

It's a good thing the weather was not conductive to this project today, the vaseline is a good idea. I'll be sure to pick some up before this weekend.

No, not my actual floor! I can press a good amount into the carpet under the rear seats. There is a lot of space to be gained by removing some carpet from under there. I just don't know how to finish the cut edges nicely! Granted, the box will hide the cut edges, I am sure, but still...

Plus, I don't know what is actually under there...

Sorry to hijack here but does the vasaline work good? I'm working on this old boat for my brother that he got for free and the previous owner must have piled the port side of this thing up on a jetty or hit some pretty jagged rocks so there are some big holes in the hull of this thing. But anyways, working on one of the smaller holes I used a wood platform and with a layer of aluminum foil, then news paper over that, and laid the glass on top of that and used a jack to hold the glass against the hull. After doing that, the top of the glass (which would be facing the inside of the boat and had air and sun directly at it) cured perfect and strong.. but the bottom is still tacky so I'm thinking it might have something to do with the news paper. But anyways.. think vasaline will allow it to cure better?

you should have plenty of room for a sub under there because when you get ready to frame with you mdf just raise you seat height about 2 inches and the speaker ring will be 3/4 inches. add that to what ever the distance from the top to bottom of the enclosure will be, so if its 3 inches + 2inches + 3/4 inches thats 53/4 inches. only problem is your seats will set a little higher.

tip please make sure its at least 70 degrees outside if you will be working out side. and get those air bubble out.

Yeah, if it was just a crack then thats what I would have done.. But the previous owner must have been a "go big or not at all" guy. The hole is probably a foot wide and two feet long lol. I'll figure something out.. but thanks anyways

The vaseline works well! For the baffle rings...aka sub rings made out of MDF...pick up some 1/4-3/8 inch dowels. Stretch fleece over it. Use hot glue to secure the dowels and the fleece VERY tightly. Put a coat of resin on the outside...and paint on some resin and mat.

I will be using mdf rings, I will probably just suspend them in position with some dowl or something, and hot glue them in place. I will be fleecing the top, already got the fleece.

is it online (List sites if so) or local (what stores)
