So i have an 02 dakota with a 4.7 V8 and i found out there isnt much in the way of aftermarket performance parts for it so i thought about doing a 5.9 magnum swap i was just wondering how difficult this would be and what i would need to do so
thoughts and advice?

You'd be best to throw in a 5.7 HEMI. The 4.7 and 5.7 use the same transmission. The 46RE (5.9L) would need a different bellhousing if one even exists. The 5.7 will also need less work in terms of getting the electronics to function properly.

There are performance parts for the 4.7. As the engine is getting 'old' the aftermarket isn't as big as it once was, but there is still a very good following. The newer RAM 1500 offers the 4.7L still, albeit it's a 300hp version. The 4.7L from 2008+ are 300hp+. Sites such as http://andysautosport.com/ or summitracing.com are but two of many sites that offer 4.7L goodies.

The older LA/Magnum 5.2/5.9 engines do have a good following yet as the block design dates back over 40 years. Aftermarket retailers such as http://www.hughesengines.com carry plenty of go fast goodies. I'm not sure if they have much for the 4.7, as it is technically a member of the 'magnum' engine family.

so what you're saying is if i wanted to do a swap go with either a new 4.7 cause they're better stock or drop in a 5.7 HEMI but if i went with the HEMI which year of it would be best to drop in
