I have a 2001 dodge Dakota 4.7 liter that dropped a valve on #2 cylinder. I happen to come across an engine out if an 2001 dodge Durango with a 4.7 liter engine. I was wondering if I could swap the engines out without any problems. I know the Durango engine has a 32 tooth tone ring but not sure in my Dakota engine? I need some help.

Are you sure the '01 Durango engine is 32 tooth? The swap happened later, in the '02 model year. It is not compatible.

Your '01 Dakota would be 16 tooth.

On the Dakota you have 3 connectors to the PCM - that's a JTEC controller. What does the Durango have? 3 or 4? It needs to be 3.

You can also pull the cover and look at the cam sprocket on the Durango engine. If it says NGK it's the 32 tooth tone ring and not compatible.

Yes, you can swap the tone rings to fit but you have to pull the crank to do it.

Let’s say it does have 3 how much custom fabricating would you have to do to the engine mounts and everything else if any? Planning on doing it to mine
Should pretty much bolt in. The engine mounts may differ, especially between 2wd and 4wd mounts. Check the oil pans too.
