My 2001 Dakota has the usual gauge set, which only shows reference marks on the voltmeter, oil pressure and temperature gauges. But a gauge set from a 2001 Durango with the same layout, shows numbers for the same three gauges. So, can a Durango gauge set be installed into a Dakota of the same year, and will the gauges work with the Dakota wiring harness connectors.

I bought a used Dakota gauge set on Ebay, mostly because it has the indicator for the auto trans PRNDL. This eventually will be the gauge set for my 56 C3 pickup mounted on my 2001 Dakota chassis. My Dak has the manual 5spd, so I'd have to change to the gauge set with the PRNDL indicator. Does the replacement gauge set have to initialized to the VIN of my Dakota?
