Will this work? Money is tight but i have a brand new complete set of rear brakes off a 99 durango. Drums to backing plate. I hate having these lay around so will they work on a 99 dakota? After 112,000+ miles its time to replace the rear brakes.

no the dakota is an 11.whatever radius and the durango is a 13.4 something for the front and 12 somthing for the rear i forgot all the exact numbers casue i haven worked on my truck in years but that all change when i ETS

Both my v6 and RT had 9 inch drums. I have seen durangos with 11 inch brakes but IDK about them having 9 inch ones, they probably do I just never noticed.

i was wrong on the rotor sizes for the durango, there 12.1 and the dakota is 11.3 for the front

So the durango rear drum brakes will not bolt on to the dakota axle?

The 99 Dakota came with either a 9" or 10" rear drum and the same year Durango came with a 10" rear drum. It is possible the drum from the Durango will fit you Dakota but honestly your best bet is to take the rear wheel off the Dakota and see if the new drums fit.

I would be putting the whole rear brake system off the durango on the truck. From the Back plate to the drum. I'm just wondering if the backing plate will bolt on to the dakota axle.

You can check the data sheet in your glove box. It will say what size rear drums you have. My 99' dak had 10" drums and they were a PITA to source.

did you ever end up trying this swap? im trying to see if i can swap my drum/backing plate from my 8.25 axle to my 9.25. no one really answered the right question. are the backing plates interchangeable?

No i haven't had a chance to try it yet. From what i can tell backing plates look to be interchangeable. I'm hoping to get mine changed over next weekend
