Alright, so I recently run all my times up at Epping, NH. That dragstrip is 90 feet above sea level.

I have since moved back to my homeland of wonderful Wichita, KS(recently rank 9th best city to live in the United States according to money magazine -- :rockwoot: ). The dragstrips around here seem to run about 1000ft - 1500ft above sea level...give or take a couple hundred feet depending on which track you're at.

So here's my question...

Assuming the outdoor condition are constant between the two areas, what is the difference in ET and trap speed that I should expect?

Will it be something drastic like 1/2 a second and 5mph, or should they still be relatively close to each other -- a tenth or two and 1mph?

I don't know the density altitude for Epping, I imagine it's not much since it's so close to sea level, but density altitude tends to run about 3000-4000ft in KS.

Help me out you drag junkies.

lol, just some random girls I saw at a car show. I like to walk up to hot bitches and say, "hi my name is CJ, I've seen you ladies walking around quite a bit and I was wondering if you two beautiful girls would like to get a picture with my truck"

Haven't been told no yet. It's either my studly good looks and charm or the bitches just love the R/T. haha

CJ, DA changes all the time, one MINUTE it could be 2500 and then an hour later it could be 500. You have to check that stuff to be sure. Here is how:

1. Find out the elevation of the track.

Kansas
Atwood (Atwood-Rawlins) - 2923
Great Bend (SCRA) - 1874
Manhattan (Midwest) - 322
Topeka (Heartland Park) - 1080
Wichita (WIR) - 1345

2. Find out the weather for the day and time of your run.

http://www.weatherunderground.com/

Type in the city or ZIP of the track and then half way down the page there is a section called "History & Almanac." You will be able to select the date you were at the track and it will give a full weather report with all the info you need for varying frequencies (every 2-5 minutes depending on weather station).

Here is my data from my run Friday night that I will figure out. This is all the info you need:

3. Put the weather info into this site, which will tell you your DA and sea level corrected ET.

http://www.modulardepot.com/density.php

Here is one of mine from Friday as an example. I was at Heartland Park:

i looked at this and it shows sea level air pressure. should we be using the air pressure from the altitude the track was at??

Da

I campaign a bracket car in Kansas City, Missouri we typically race at KCIR anyway a typical rule of thumb if your trying to put a number on a car every 100 feet of da change is ganna be a .01 of a second but it really depends on more than just the da humidity, and the grains of water in the air all affect combustion. in the summer months at kcir the DA can fluctuate from 2500 ft in the morning all the way to 4000 ft mid afternoon so thats some really big changes in a matter of hours. but thats kansas weather for ya

Density Altitude

Thanks for the Modular Depot link. I have a handheld weather station and got a reading 2490 for DA at the track. Plugging in the numbers, the calculator gave me 2562 ft. Close enough. Just a tip. Google Earth will give you the altitude if you zoom in on the track. Per Google, Island Dragway, NJ is at 516 ft. at the starting line 513 ft at the finish line.

Hmmm.....Idk if I keep doing something wrong but after working this out. I got a second faster at sea level with a 6 mph trap speed increase.
Here's the numbers if you want to try it.
Kearney Raceway Park ~2100ft
July 21st, 07
91*
93% humidity
30.05 pressure
15.25 ET @ 91 mph

Found this convenient, being all on one site. Can't vouch for accuracy cause it says beta testing in one spot. Let me know please.:waiting:

I use that site to make me feel good..LOL
But they list the local track lower then it is. The track here is at 5400'
Add the bad air....7000' is your friend, on a good day. I've raced when the DA was over 11,000 feet.

I'm a second faster at sea level...
