Before you buy anything I would talk to the shop you will have doing the work. Technically true duals aren't legal, some shops will do it anyway, some won't.

The Dakota never came from the factory with dual exhaust, Federal law doesn't allow it to be changed to something that wasn't certified when new. Shops are under the threat of a Federal fine for each infraction, I think it is $10k and will not touch or modify a exhaust system, others shops don't care and will do what you want. Some States do not perform emissions testing and really wouldn't care, some States that do test, only care what comes out of the tail pipe, some have a visual test and regardless of the tail pipe sniffer result, you will fail the visual.

Obviously this is for vehicles built with emission equipment originally.

So let me understand, even if Alaska doesn't require a smog test of any kind visual or sniffer, I'm still S-O-L if the shop refuses to do it because it violated federal law.

I've just seen your reply. Yes that is correct. It is a Federal Violation to remove the pollution control devices. The Federal law supersedes any State law. The fines are $10,000 for each device removed. A deterrent to many.
