Can anyone tell me if their is a way to check my engine codes when my check engine light comes on without taking it to the shop. I have a 98 Durango 5.2L.

If there is an Advance Auto parts or a Auto Zone near you they can check it for free. If you lived near me I could hook it up to a snap on tool. Hope this helps

Stick your key in the ignition do the following sequence:

off-on, off-on, off-on. That last ON you have to keep the key in the position and the code will flash in your odometer reading. It will start with a P----

I don't think that works on 98's. you need a code reader. tiggerweed has some good advice.

Correct 98's need a reader.
