I have a 1999 dodge dakota 4x4 3.9l with a 200000 miles on the tranny. It doesn't want to go into D but will go into R. I also have a 1991 dodge ram 250 van 3.9l with 100000 miles on the tranny. Can I swap the tranny's and transfer case's? The electrical system is haywire on the van. The dakota has electrical working just won't go into gear. Please let me know. I am having one heck of a time finding this out. Thank you in advance.

Between a 1991 and a 1999 the electrical is totally different. 1996 went to OBD2 which is all different. And the 1991 the first 3 gears are hydraulic controlled with fourth and converter clutch being all that is computer controlled, and no speed sensors. Your computer may have problems making the engine run right without speed sensors. The 1999 uses a electronic governor for the first three gears and then computer control for fourth and the converter clutch. You would have to be very good with electrical systems to make it work. Would be much easier to and possibly cheaper to fix the Dakota transmission, which will need a rebuild, sounds like the forward clutch is gone in that one.
