Not simplest. The rear Durango frame is different from the Dak. The bed would never bolt on.

This is how I am was planning on creating one a few years down the road. This way when I am done I will have a AWD Dak R/T and a 2WD Dur R/T both of which were never made and both would look pretty close to stock.

It could work with some fab skills, but like anyway you do this it would take some good fab skills.

Yea definitely do'able. I mean anything is possible..just depends on the time, effort, and money thats put into it. Then of course, skills like mentioned above.

I have had the same thought, if you know who Parish is (look on youtube if you dont), an AWD fast truck would be sweet not to mention a great winter vehicle if needed.
But, as already said, there are way too many differences bewteen the 2 and 4wd dakotas. I have been on the lookout for a 97-98 high mileage 4x4 with a 5.2 thats cheap just for this purpose. Lower it, throw in a 5.9 and a 46re along with a awd transfercase (I'm thinking a 242? out of a 5.9 Grand Cherokee). It would be even better with a 6 speed, but then cost goes up even more.

98 5.9 Grand Cherokee used the 249 t-case which used a Viscous Coupler type differential in the t-case. Very good AWD t-case IMHO, better at power transfer F/R than the 242. The 249 VC got a bad rap because they tend to start failing about 100k miles and would cause driveline bind as they tend to fail in the locked mode due to contamination of the special fluid inside the coupler.

You'll be regretting it if you ever try it. Itis much easier to do a motor swap with a 4x4. 2wd and 4wd dakotas are very different up front! Alot to fab and not many parts can be used from a 4x4.

Just look for an AWD 5.9 quadcab. Rare, but they exist.
