I'm shopping for replacement tires for my factory 16x8s on my 01 2wd Dak. There aren't many choices out there in the factory 255/65/16 size, and those that are available are spendy. I've contemplated downsizing to 235/70/16s for better fuel mileage, winter traction, and because the selection is much greater - not to mention prices are better.

Anybody been here and done this? Advice?

I put 245/70/16 on mine last fall. I went with a local tire shop and got some of the "off brand" tires - which have exactly the same tread pattern as a Michelin - but cost a lot less - I put all four tires on my truck for $500 installed and balanced.

I didn't want to put a really aggressive tire on - I think they look out of place on a 2wd......best advice I can give you is that tires are usually way overpriced - have a good look at the "no name" stuff - it will save you a lot of coin...

You also need to look at the mileage rating for them - you don't want to buy tires with a really low wear rating.
