Not gonna be too much of a build, but it'll undergo a mild transformation, so I figured I'd throw up a few pics. This is my son's first vehicle, picked it up for $500. '98 Sport, V6, auto, crappy paint, but it's got a sunroof! :eek:nethumb: Also came with a brand new stereo and speakers.

Already swapped wheels on her and removed the butterfly seat covers and steering wheel cover. I was a lil worried about how the seats would look underneath, but they're like brand new!

Drop parts are on the way, also trying to track down some fender flares. The center console is the flip up seat style and it's a lil messed up, so we'll be swapping that for a floor console.

Next step is a satin black paint job, cheap, easy and helps hide the minor imperfections.

Here's how she looked when I brought her home:

Threw on a set of 16" sport wheels that I had in the garage (that's the nice thing about owning multiple dakotas, plenty of spare parts lol):

For painting with a roller that turned out damn good, you'd think that it would turn out looking like a wall in your house

If you put pantyhose over the roller it makes it alot smoother

It's the thinning out that does it. When you roll it on, there's a bunch of bubbles, but then they all pop and the paint levels itself out. Some of the guys that are doing it with gloss paint are getting some insane results, check this out, hard to believe it was painted with a foam roller:

That reflection picture was done with a roller?! HOLY
this is bad news for the auto painting industry lol

OMFG, thats something that you'd pay alot of money to achieve
maybe i can get my parts done for cheep after all hahha

looks really good
So how many parts of paint would you put to parts or thinner? and what kind of thinner would you use? Maybe I should try that with my truck and save the $3000 on a repaint from a body shop

I did a 50/50 mix, some guys have reported good results with 30% and 40% thinner. I was working horizontally with the tailgate, I think I might need to leave it a lil thicker when I'm painting vertically or it may run. The nice thing is that it's cheap, so you can experiment and you're not wasting a lot of money. I paid $8/qt for the paint (3 qts) and $9 for a gallon of 100% mineral spirits (don't use anything but 100% mineral spirits, and avoid the low odor stuff, just use the full strength stuff). You don't have to worry about ventilation, because you can do it in the driveway. :)

There's tons of thread out there about it, just google "rustoleum roller paint job". :eek:nethumb:
And the foam roller is just one that you can get from a hardware store? And I will have to goggle that, I have heard of people that used rollers to paint there car, i.e. Ricky from Trailer Park Boys, lol

Yup, just a 4" high density foam roller, here's what I'm using:

You're limited to whatever colors Rustoleum has, they have reds, blues, yellows, etc., but not the factory colors. It will work on fiberglass, plastic, metal, etc. A lot of folks paint their boats with it.
shit.....if my whole trucks paint was messed up i mean id do it in that satin black. but i love intense blue and its not effed up. hmmm black bed cover, black flares, and black roll pan on my truck... i wonder what that would look like

Yeah, that's why I'm doing it on the Sport with shitty paint and not on the R/T lol As a matter of fact, I'm dropping off my Shaker hood and tonneau cover tomorrow for real paint. But for a beater with crappy paint, this is perfect.
haha sweet, what place are you taking it to? i see you live in va but your in southern va so that be a drive haha
