So im considering a engine swap from a 2.5 to a jeep 4.0 in my 98 5 speed dakota and am wondering what all would be needed and if it would be a direct bolt up or would motor mounts be different

This is going to be a custom swap because there was never a 4.0 Liter option for the Dakota.

What you'll probably need to make this work is the entire wiring harnesses, and computer, Transmission with t-case and a custom radiator.

So looking into it I have decided against the 4.0, might consider a 3.9 instead due to being a simpler fit-up

Not too sure about the I4, but if you are putting a bigger engine in there, consider a 5.2 or 5.9 (318 or 360) to put in. Is the manual on those the NV3500? Prices are crazy right now, but if you can find a v8 to put in it you won’t regret it.
