Found a 96 that might have a rear end I need but it's 2 hours away. I need to know if the 96 shock mounts on the axle tube are both on the rear of it or front and rear of the tube. Been trying to find a replacement for a friend, hoping you guys can let me know so I don't waste a day going to get it. Tia

1996 has both to the rear.

Also, they increased the spline count on the axle shafts in 1997. This may not make a difference if you swap housing and all complete.

Plus, don't forget 2WD is axle-over-spring, 4WD is axle-under-spring for the 1st Gen Dakotas.

Cool thank you. Yah I'm just gonna grab the whole rear end. He has a 95 4x4 with 3.55 gears, now I'll just have to check the ratio. 🤞

I need to make sure the junkyard rear-end has 3.55s. I know 3.55 is the most common but could be a chance of another.
