So I recently came across a free block that according to the casting number is a 360 from 89-91. I still need to have a machine shop check it out but I'd like to use it as the block for a stroker build to put into my 99 Sport which current has the Magnum 318. I've searched this forum and others high and low and I've found a bunch of different info. Some say it will bolt right in, some say it won't. Some say all I need is a new guage cluster. I've read that it would be much easier if I just used a 360 magnum block but unfortunately the block I was given for free is not a Magnum.

I read about the specific build I'd like to do in Engine Builder magazine so I know it's possible, I just want to know what I need to do, if anything, to get this block to bolt in to my 2nd gen.

Ok i'm no expert but the small block 360 only has 2 places for mounts you have the old three bolt ears on the front of the block that protrude out and you have the 3 bolt threaded holes in the center of the block so if you have bothe of those on your free motor it will fit if you just have one then look at ur 2nd gen and they should be the center ones i think but not sure i only have first gen stuff and a 2000 van i hope that helps ya

Awesome, thanks for the reply! I will take a look when I get home from work. It came with the original 3 bolt mounts still attached towards the front so I suppose worse case scenario I'll have to have a shop weld them in which I imagine wouldn't be too difficult or expensive for a decent shop to do.

My next question for you, or anyone else who knows, would be how compatible it is with my 44RE. By the time i finish this build ill probably have a 46 but i know theyre pretty interchangeable.

Really, my only concern is getting the block into the truck and bolting up to the trans with minimal fabrication. So far the only other obstacle someone brought up is the absence of a crank sensor requiring a different way to monitor RPM at the gauge cluster which doesn't sound like a huge issue just a matter of wiring which to my understanding can be tricky in and of itself but not catastrophic. I'm in no rush as this will be my first engine build and I want to make sure I do it right but im working within a budget obviously so if I can use this block itll be built slowly over time.
