I have a 2000 and i have converted to 5 lug it is not to hard but in my opinion its a waste of time and money i am in the process of switching back to 6 lug. But i will tell you what i did. for the front i purchased a new pair of hub assemblies and had them machined for the 5 lug i used standard 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. for brake rotors i searched extensively to find any factory 5 lug rotor that would work but i could not find one maybe you could call wilwood or ssbs or somebody else who makes brake setups and get what you need but i was looking ease of availability and low cost so i just drilled my stock rotors and it worked fine. as for the rear i bought new axles (9 1/4 rear end) from Dutchman made in the five lug configuration and i found the factory drums for a 5 lug dakota (87-90) are the same as the 6 lug just with 5 lugs. Now that being said i am going to sell all my parts to convert if you are interested it will be cheap let me know if your interested i also have 5 lug weld wheels im selling also.
Thanks Alan

I think a cheaper route would've been to just buy the entire rear axle from an older model Dakota and swap it in.
if dragdak doesn't pick some of this stuff up..I am super interested in the axles...and weld wheels.
Why not just drill your rotors and not worry about the pattern? If I remember right, I think I have 3 original holes in my rotors and then one new and one double drilled... Not really worrying about them going anywhere, they are sandwiched between the hub and the wheel after all... To me, it was well worth it, running some nice look mustang wheels on the truck now, check out the pics in the photobucket in my sig below.

I had my front hubs welded and redrilled for 5x4.5
since yours is a genII, why didn't you just use the 87-90 components? Cheap..and def no concerns about the drilled hubs/rotors.
GenI hubs are totally different than genII, wont fit.
Switch Back??

Curious as to why you wanted to switch back. I'm fixing to change to 5 lugs on my 2000 DAK 2WD so I have a reasonable choice of luxury wheels.
I can help anyome that wants to switch. I make billet one off hubs with new bearings. Please pm if interested. I also have a thread on here in same section with details and pics
