I have a 1990 convertible dakota that I bought last year. I was recently offered an entire 5.7 hemi setup (engine, trans, and everything I could think of, except the comp.) for a great price. I was wondering if anyone has ever done this swap or knowns how possible it would be. Also I will need a computer and wiring harness for the 2003 5.7 if anyone has a direction to point me in I'd appreciate it.

Anything can be done, and if you are getting the engine trans and everything, I'd jump on it. You can go to street and performance website.... I don't recall it, but do a search on the name, and you will be able to get the wiring harness and the pcm from them. They can also help you out with other little problems that you may run into, as they have put the new hemi in many vehicles. If I blow my 390 stroker, I'm going to do a new 426 stroker hemi project in my 91 dak.

ive done the swap in my 2001 dakota 4x4 ext cab.it was basically an easy mechanical swap since it was a v8 but the problem came when i started the wiring, the hemi has different sensors and a few more then a normal v8,i got the computer with the wiring harness connected and then found what sensors were missing and installed them.after a few sleepless nights and 3 bottles of excederin i was finished.i started the engine and the gauges all went to their correct possitions.i rolld her out of the garage and dropped it into gear-nothing! back in the garage i again checked sensors.the transmission sensor was for the original v8.i swapped it and rolled her back out.dropped into gear and off we went, after a few adjustments on things everything was running smooth.be sure to use the entire drive line, motor, tranny ,transfer case in the swap or youll hit snag after snag, depending on your differential you may need to swap it as well.its been 26000 miles and a few 1/4 runs and no problems at all
