The price is good for sure. With how popular this mod is I can only think that maybe it's a newly available part; otherwise there would be lots of recommendations for or against them. I'm planning to cam my '00 while my valve covers are off getting powder coated.

You might be right about that. I wish I had that option back then. If that’s what they are they are by far the better cam option. With all I’ve done, almost every bolt on, a tune, HO cams, I’m probably making roughly 300hp. I think the 08 motors make 310 hp(of course it’s a little more than just the cam). You gonna be right there with me or damn close with those cams. Do yourself a favor and get the updated rocker design rockers and replace the lash adjusters while your in there. Good luck sir!
I’m going my to keep checking on this forum. When I was working on my truck it didn’t seem that active, now I see some recent posts. Keep us updated on your project!
Powertrainproducts.net sells a remanufactured 4.7HO long block, with block updates to address the cooling/oil issues, heads updated to use better valve seats, better valve retainers/springs, better head gaskets, HO cams. Not cheap, but after reading through this thread it may be a good plan to get a strong fresh engine with all the right updates. I want a strong 4.7HO for my 56 Dodge C3 pickup build. For the cost, its nearly a built "crate" engine. Anyone see a reason not to go this route?

I cannot say from personal experience or anything, but when I looked at 4.7 motors for fun this is the company I likely would have gone through. They really had the 4.7 issues that I am aware of sorted out, in my opinion.

Put it another way to you too. I couldn’t find anything bad about them on the internet at all. Nothing.
If your staying fuel injected or especially if keeping stock ecu and harness consider HemiFever or Flyin Ryan for tuning. Flyin Ryan for sure for custom tubing but I’m very satisfied with my HemiFever tune. Little gadget I have says I’m making better than 300 horses.
04 Dakota 4.7 nv3500 5sp 4x4 319hp pull93 octane tune this timeMade 319 in third gear this time! Made 301 in second gear this time, showed 318 but I bounced ...
Cool stuff! That's good power from a non HO 4.7. Based on the info at Powertrain.net seems likely I could better than 315hp from a 4.7HO with the 08 HO intake and decent exhaust. I have Gobson headers on my 01 Dak 4.7SLT, but I have read they won't fit the newer 08 4.7HO heads because of the dual plugs. SO I may have to forfeit the headers for the 4.7HO in my 56 pickup. My overall goal is a strong daily driver, that with a 545RFE trans and 3:55 rear ratio should get me an easy 20+mpg on steady flat highway driving, which is a lot of easy central Wisconsin.

Been waiting on my valve covers so haven't put it all together yet. I have no reason to believe that these would not be an exact match since these are listed as OEM replacements

Hey thanks for getting back to me. Yes I would like to believe that too, it's just in years past aftermarket 4.7l cams were listed as fitting all years 99-13 and any time I've seen them mentioned people say they are the pre- 08 specs. Keep us posted, hope it works out!

Will do! I think the difference here is Enginetech actually lists separate part numbers for '99-'07 (1587 & 1588) vs. '08+ (705 & 706). Where as SKP lists 1587 & 1588 for all years.
I'm a long way out till I get into building my 56 Dodge pickup onto my 2001 Dakota chassis. But pretty certain I'll spend the bucks on a 2008 or newer 4.7HO long block to build the engine I want rather then rebuild the stock 2001 4.7 in my Dak now. Too many potential issues that the Powertrain remanned 4.7HO addresses. I want a strong engine, but it has to be reliable 1st. I've been fortunate to get my current Dak 4.7 to 203,000 miles with no major issues. Back in 2012 I replaced the rotted through oil pan with a replacement, and a new oil pump. 2016 I replaced a failed coil, cleaned the injectors, then also took the valve covers off to check the cams/followers/retainers. Once I get the Dak chassis under the 56 pickup, I want a strong runner that only requires external maintenance for many years.

The reason for this is they changed the cam profile after 2008. They are basically the same profile as the older HO cams. Yes they will fit the older heads. even though they redesigned the heads in 2008 they didn't change where the cam sat or the bearing size.
Have to help my kid fix the 4.7 in his 05 Durango due to a cracked head. I figured we'd put some HO cams in while at it and stumbled across all the info on the 2008+.
So we found a good donor at the local yard. Wondering thoughts on swapping the heads? We will definitely be grabbing the manifold and cams either way. But trying to decide on pulling pre/post 08 heads. Are gains by running the 08 head, vs installing the cams in pre 08 head worth the added effort?
I know the exhaust manifolds don't interchange so will need to take the 08, and probably "tweak" the y-pipe. Not sure about the dual plug setup. Anyone have info on harness mod needed to run the dual plug coils? Can pre-08 coils be used (just firing the upper plug) as an easier option?
Anything I can learn without trial and error is appreciated
