I forget but doesn't Chrysler use powdered metal rods on most of their engines since the early 2000's? I know our standard 4.7's had them, but I don't remember if the 5.7L HEMI's got them as well.

I'm running the 80 mm manual TB, with a 4.7 PCM. If I had to do it over again, I probably would've went with the drive by wire way with a Hemi PCM. I assume your going to be using SCT to tune the 4.7 PCM, which will work fine, however with the knock sensors not hooked up, the PCM will not be able to pull timing if knock is present. It's hard to hear with loud exhaust and the windows down. Which will lead to a crack piston land on #3. Been there, done that. Another thing is the factory Hemi Ram shifts at 135psi where the 4.7 PCM shifts at 120. It may not seem like much, but it will eventually cause 3rd and 4th gear failure. Stay away from roll racing. I recommend buying a Sonnex line pressure boaster, for safe measure. Hope this info helps.

Man just use the 05 Ram ECU like I did, just to be on the safe side, my harness was plug and play, but not cheap! Hotwire Auto had my harness back to me in like a week and are great to deal with, it started right up the first time, now all I have to use is a Diablo sport tuner and can be custom tuned as well!

If you don't mind me asking how much did the Hotwire Harness cost? I have all of the wiring for the motor, Trans, and T-Case form an 04 quad cab 4x4 with the 5.7, auto,

Thanks

I don't know what SCT is.. There is a shop down by Durrant Oklahoma that says they can Reprogram / Tune the 4.7 computer to run the 5.7 with the 5.7 timing and what not.. That's what I was planing on doing. But may go the other Route since I done have the drive buy wire Throttlebody and wiring harnesses..

If you do the drive by wire.. Is it as Simple as some say that to make the Cruise work. You just need to change out the Dakota steering wheel with one from an 02 and up truck?

What about the coded key. Did all of the 03 and up dodge rams with the 5.7 have the coded key to make them run. How do you get by that? My 04 Dakota don't have a coded key..

And can you get the Hemi computer vin code changed to the one for the Dakota to where you don't get the wrong vin code?

Sorry about all the Questions. But if I don't asked then I don't know..

Thanks

Are you using the BBK 80mm manual TB or a different brand? I looked into having a 1 inch plate built an just using the stock 4.7 TB with it.. But they want close to the same price..

Well I'm pretty sure you guys are going to say how stupid I am when I tell you that I spent $1500 on the harness, that was a true plug and play and full emissions with awesome tech support and even fixed my crappy looking stock harness, oh did I mention all the gauges work as advertised!

Yeah bud.. I ended up giving them a call and they told me $1,516 for the plug and play Harness and for an 05 Hemi truck 4x4 Computer that is set to me vin, and has the chip key turned off is $300 witch I didn't think was to bad for a Reprogrammed Computer to work like it is so post to..

And that's for the Computer and to have it reprogrammed.. And they can set it with your vin number if you want them to.. And they Recommended the 545 Trans whit the white plug. And he said that he was pretty shore my 04 Dakota came with that one..

Yeah I am pretty shore this 04 Dakota has the 45RFE Trans.. I know on the salvage yard site that I order parts from they only give the 04 Dakota and 04-05 Dodge Ram 1500 as the Direct replacement Trans.. On my truck.. So I'm guessing there the same ones.. So I shoulded have to buy that as well rift off the bat. It should last for a while..

Doesn't matter if it is a 45 or 545 RFE auto. The only thing that matters is the programming, which on certain model years, you can change out the TCM to get the 5th gear of the 545RFE from the 45RFE. Basically, the transmissions are the same thing and the cutoff year for the 545 from the 45RFE is 2003. The salvage yard you go to is not up to date on their tech info.

Well they really don't give tech info.. The site I use is all of the Salvage yards in the United States and Canada.. You put in what your looking for like Year, Make, Model, and it gives what all will interchange with that model yr. on my 04 Dakota it just gives 04 Dakota and 04-05 Ram 1500 witch most of the time is a pretty good ball park of what all will fit.. That's all I was going off of.. I know mine has the White plug Trans in it. Witch they said was the better one..

Those sites are worthless. I tried to get a set of chromed factory wheels for my Neon 2 years ago and I never got a response from one the junkyards I emailed that had the wheels. No surprise that they don't realize how little Chrysler changed the transmission over the past 13 years since it was introduced in 1999 in the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The fact is the design is very stout and the reason it has been around so long.
I would not trust those sites again, either get the info from here, allpar.com, or better yet, from Chrysler themselves.

From the research that I have done the 04 Dakota is the only year that had the 545RFE trans, and that will be the next vehicle purchase, as it will save a bunch of money.

My 03 4.7 has the 4 plug pcm and the 545 trans.
I am also looking into running my 03 4.7 NGC to run my hemi.
Why is because I need to pass emissions. Around here its no Check Engine light and you have a pass.
Hemi-fi would like to hear more on how you ran yours.
All and any info on this is appreciated. Matt

I just drove mine from Colorado Springs to Houston and back (~2000 miles round trip) and averaged 17 - 18 MPG. Keep in mind that is an AWD truck and running ~85 MPH, unless in an other than 75 MPH speed zone.
