I recently purchased an 01 dakota 4.7 4x4 and blew the head gasket. I then bought a used engine 4.7 lined up perfectly I swapped the flywheel and other necessities. I have e reason to believe the engine I purchased came from a durango it will not start and I've tried everything I can think of. Looking for answers can i swap the heads and put my old engine back in. If not what needs to be done or can it

Does it crank? Spark? Fuel pressure? You didn't give much in the way of clues.

Unfortunately dodge did several versions of timing setups on the 4.7l. I ran into this engine swapping a 2004 engine to a 2002. they aren't compatible. they used both a 16 tooth and a 32 tooth pickup on the crank over the years and 2 styles of cam pickup as well. not sure why they did but it makes engine swaps a pain. In 2007 they did a final update that seems to have lasted till they ended production. So you might just need to swap out the cam sprocket but I'm not sure on all the timing differences before the 2007 year. some were split years and some were vin specific form the little research I have done. You can swap out the crank pickup without having to take off the rod bearings if you need to change it but at that point its almost easier to just swap out the heads onto your old block.
