So I got this 1998 dakota sc 2wd with a 3.9 5sp, and I really want to swap in a 5.7 hemi and keep the 5sp. I really like the 5sp manual and have only seen it on a swap thats on youtube but its a 05' dak. Has anyone done this or know of what it takes? Computer flashing recommendations? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I know this project will be worth the work and am excited to get started. Also I hope that I can buy a set of engine mounts and the modified oil pan from here.

Good luck. You will need a whole new engine wiring harness/PCM and probably gauges as well. Or a custom stand alone to control the Hemi. Plus your current manual tranny won't bolt up to the Hemi. You will need to find one from a 4.7L Dak.

Yeah the engines I have been pricing have some with the harness and computer and some without. I will start looking for a newer gauge cluster and tranny options, is there good place to have the pcm flashed?

Get an engine from a truck along with every wire from headlight to tail light. The motor mounts will need to be custom made along with the oil pan. It is not a bolt in swap. The brake booster will need to be moved as well.

And your trans will bolt right up to a hemi. All the bellhousing patterns are the same for a Chrysler small block. The hemi will explode it, but it will bolt up. Haha.

all the above sugjestions i agree with but i have found if your using an older dakota there is alot more to it then using a 200 up dakota, the brake cylinder needs moved, oil pan redone, mounts fabricated, exhaust custom and if it was a 6 cyl you have firewall clearance problems as well.we just did one the same year as yours for the strip because making it street ready was to costly,oh and you have to run frame supports on the older dakotas as well or youll be driving in circles because you tweeked the frame into a u
