I have a 1996 dakota 3.9 automatic 4x4. I've been researching watching for parts to do a v8 swap for a while now. I realize it's a unique truck being a the only year obdII 1 gen. I Just was given a donor truck that is a 1999 1500 with a 5.9. Rebuilt auto tranny, decent milage, good running 5.9. I know all the other logistics about swapping, the problem i have is finding info on the pcm. From what I understand, the '99 pcm won't work. Will a '96 dakota 5.2 pcm work? If not, can I get it flashed to a 5.9? Will any '96 5.9 auto pcm work? I was planning on using 3.9 harness and adding 2 injectors. Will a 1997 pcm work? Thanks for your help

*Update, I'm getting the 5.9 prepped right now, hoping to swap it out in the next couple weeks. Can drop the 5.9 in with the tranny connected? I hope so, it'd be some much easier. I'm thinking the 3.9 will come out with the tranny connected since the v6 is shorter. I hope that the case also, that would be easier too. Let me know anyone has experience with that. Thanks!
