I just replaced the shocks on my 03 Durango 4x4 with the 4.7. I put Gabriel ProGuards on them and they ride really harsh, especially considering my town loves to neglect roads. So what’s the best shock for the smoothest, least-harsh ride for the kid hauler?
KYB Gas-A-Just. I put a full set on my daughter's '90 Montero. They totally transformed the ride, and soak up bumps really well now.
A few years ago a put a pair of Gabriel's on the back of my '04 Dakota. I forget which model... Sorry. They also ride really hard, but they're better than the failed factory shock. I now have a pair of Gas-A-Just on the front of my '04 Dakota. I like them. And I just got a pair for the rear from Rockauto. I'll be installing them in the next week or two, so I can't comment on the ride yet. But, based on my experience so far, I'm excited for the upgrade.
Best of luck on whatever you choose!
